Background: This article aims to understand the family planning (FP) knowledge and current use of contraception and its predictors among women of the Mru people – the most underprivileged indigenous community in Bangladesh. Methods: In this study, 374 currently married Mru women were interviewed and selected purposively from three upazilas (administrative subdistricts) of the Bandarban area, where ...
    • Farlige hekser fra Harstad-området

Hagen, Rune Blix (Chronicle; Kronikk, 2016-11-11)
    • Farlige Kvinner

Hagen, Rune Blix (Chronicle; Kronikk, 2021-04-12)
Lokale rettsinstanser flere steder i Norge hadde før denne tid avsagt fellende dødsdom i flere ...
    • "Festung Norwegen" and slave labourers from the East

Soleim, Marianne Neerland (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020)
Between 1941 and 1945, 100,000 Soviet prisoners of war were sent to Norway. More than 90,000 of these Soviet prisoners were soldiers from the Red Army.1 Nearly 7000 of the prisoners were civilian Soviet forced labourers, or so-called ‘Ostarbeiter’. The prisoners were mainly used in the building of railroads, Highway 50, runways, and fortresses along the coastline.2 “Festung Norwegen” were built with ...
    • A Fishy Tale about a Sheep and a Dog – Isotope Studies and Medieval Sámi Mobility and Husbandry in Inner Finnmark, Northern Norway

Spangen, Marte; Fjellström, Markus (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2019-01-01)
Datings of sheep and dog bone samples from a so-called ‘Sámi circular offering site’ at Bealjalgnai in Karasjok Municipality, Finnmark, Norway, show that they were deposited in the Middle Ages. They are among the earliest dated bones from such structures, and the sheep is the oldest known example from this part of inland Finnmark. Isotope analyses show that the dog lived primarily on aquatic foodstuffs, ...

The present paper by Saphinaz Naguib and its integrated photographic essay by Stein Farstadvoll address the cultural dimension of sustainability and questions pertaining to heritage in the twenty-first century, with Vardø, a small fishing town in the north-eastern coast of Norway, as our object of study. The two essays are set in a dialogic relationship with each other, and explore the notions of ...
    • Fogder på Færøyene ca. 1520–1556

Grohse, Ian Peter (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-09-30)

Fjellström, Markus; Eriksson, Gunilla; Lidén, Kerstin Birgitta; Svestad, Asgeir (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-06)
In this study, we used stable isotope analysis and radiocarbon dating to study diet, mobility and chronology in two late medieval/historical coastal populations in northern Norway. We have shown that the individuals buried at Kirkegårdsøya date between 1331 and 1953 cal AD and had a homogenous marine diet, whereas the individuals buried at Gullholmen had a more heterogeneous diet, consisting of both ...

    • Fortellinger i nordnorsk minoritetshistorie

Ryymin, Teemu; Nyyssönen, Jukka (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012)

    • Free Zone Scientology and Other Movement Milieus: A Preliminary Characterization

Lewis, James R (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-01-23)
Free Zone refers to the subculture constituted by people and organizations that adhere to the beliefs and practices of Scientology but who do so outside of – and without the sanction of – the Church of Scientology. The analysis in the present article uses the Free Zone plus a selection of comparable subcultures associated with other religious groups as case studies to explore the nature and ...
    • Fremmede i forvaltningen. Rakkestad og Orknøyene 1424/25

Grohse, Ian Peter (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-06-02)
Antagonistene i begge tilfeller – Herman ...
    • "From the Expeditio Litteraria of Maximilian Hell (1768-1770) to La Recherche of Paul Gaimard (1838-1840): Northernmost Fennoscandia in the Encyclopædic Tradition of Science"

Aspaas, Per Pippin (Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2008)
How are we, as historians of science, to deal with the history of scientific expeditions whose aims and scope covered multiple branches of research? Should we content ourselves to study the underlying, socio-political contexts motivating the expeditions, and give examples of what impression the local population, the nature, climate, etc. of the region made on the visiting scientists? Or should we ...
    • The Gendering of Infectious Disease: Classifying Male and Female Causes of Death in the Netherlands and Norway, 1880–1910

Sommerseth, Hilde Leikny; Walhout, Evelien (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-08-25)
This article explores sex and gender patterns in mortality, based on individual-level causes of death (CODs) in two urban communities, obtained from civil and parish registers. By analysing CODs for the period 1880–1910 for Roosendaal (Netherlands) and Trondheim (Norway) we investigate how notions of sex and gender were reflected in cause-specific mortality rates for adults and in the registration ...
    • Gengangere var i virkeligheden en bestseller

Purtoft, Maria (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-05-09)

By employing GIS to amalgamate data from historic mapping, ground penetrating radar, LiDAR, and 30 years of archaeological investigation, the authors reconstruct the historic landscape at the ...
    • German and Austrian occupant literature on the Sami in Norway and Lapland – “Harmless” minority, a resource, and well-off “reindeer kings”

Nyyssönen, Jukka (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020)
In previous research on the history of the Second World War in Finland and Norway, relations between the German and Austrian occupying forces and the Sami people have generally been considered to be good. The occupant gaze upon the Sami has been interpreted as exoticizing and “touristic”. Historical encounters and the Sami position in the literary discourse are discussed and explained in this article, ...
    • Gerüchte, Klatsch oder Propaganda? Der florentinische Herrscherwechsel im Jahr 1537

Lentz, Christina (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-12-16)
