Regression analysis using a blending type spline construction
(Peer reviewed; Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2017-10-18)
Regression analysis allows us to track the dynamics of change in measured data and to investigate their properties. A sufficiently good model allows us to predict the behavior of dependent variables with higher accuracy, and to propose a more precise data generation hypothesis. By using polynomial approximation for big data sets with complex dependencies we get piecewise smooth functions. One way ...
Refinements of some limit hardy-Type Inequalities via Superquadracity
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-11-03)
Refinements of some limit Hardy-type inequalities are derived and discussed using the concept of superquadracity. We also proved that all three constants appearing in the refined inequalities obtained are sharp. The natural turning point of our refined Hardy inequality is p=2 and for this case we have even equality.
Sound waves in fluidized bed using CFD–DEM simulations
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-10-16)
The speed of sound waves is investigated using CFD-DEM numerical simulations. Appropriate initial and boundary conditions are applied to capture the phenomenon. The effect of varying the height of the bed is also studied. The results of the simulations matched those from literature. The pressure and particle velocity profiles from the simulation showed the oscillatory behavior. Functions (based on ...
Detection of Red Dye in Diesel Oil
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017)
Developing a sensitive and effective instrument for detecting the presence of red dye in diesel fuel is very advantageous for governments in preventing tax loss by controlling illegal use of the diesel fuel. The objective of this work has been to investigate and develop an instrument to detect red dye in diesel, based on the principle of absorption. The peaks of absorption in red and pure diesel ...
Thyristor based short circuit current injection in isolated grids
(Peer reviewed; Bokkapittel; Chapter, 2017-02-16)
This paper proposes a thyristor based short circuit current injector for providing short circuit current in isolated and weak grids, where sufficient fault current to trigger circuit breakers may not be available. This will allow the use of conventional miniature circuit breakers, which requires high fault current for instantaneous tripping. The method has been validated through experiments.
Designing a lifting and lowering device to the storage market
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2017-06-15)
"The aim of this thesis is to design a lifting and lowering device for the storage market. The design is based on a patent, held by Dropracks, which is a collaborator in the thesis. Dropracks is a company developing a lowerable roof rack for cars. This rack is protected by their patent of a lifting and lowering device. This patent gives Dropracks an immaterial protection in all industry sectors, and ...
Solution of Pure Scattering Radiation Transport Equation (RTE) Using Finite Difference Method (FDM)
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2017-06)
Radiative transfer is the physical phenomenon of energy transfer in the form of electromagnetic radiation. The propagation of radiation through a medium is affected by absorption, emission, and scattering. Radiative Transfer Equation (RTE) have been applied in a many subjects including optics, astrophysics, atmospheric science, remote sensing, etc. Analytic solutions for RTE exist for simple cases, ...
Transient Model of an RSW System with CO2 Refrigeration – A Study of Overall Performance
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-11-07)
Refrigerated seawater (RSW) cooling using CO2 based refrigeration is a relatively new technology that shows promising performance in cold climates. For being a refrigerant CO2 has a low global warming potential (GWP) and is therefore recognized as an environmentally friendly alternative if the unit is competitive on energy efficiency. However, RSW systems with CO2 have a significant reduction in ...
Study Of Wind Chill Effect and Thermal Insulation Using Infrared Imaging
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2017)
Tanveer Ahmad presented his findings on using Infrared Imaging to identify the wind chill-effect and insulation of winter clothing. He showed qualitatively that IR can detect the effects of wind chill and conducted experiments to obtain data with a view to establishing metrics which can be used to assess the effectiveness of survival gear. An unusual item that cropped up during the presentation was ...
Quadrotor attitude estimation using adaptive fading multiplicative EKF
(Peer reviewed; Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2017-07-03)
This paper presents the implementation of an adaptive fading multiplicative extended Kalman filter (AFMEKF), applied to the problem of attitude estimation in the context of quadrotors. The extended Kalman filter is adapted for use with quaternions and made adaptive to account for inaccurate measurement information. Simulations have been conducted in order to validate the filter performance.
