    • Altering perceptions, visualizing sub-ground metal objects

Pedersen, Aleksander (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-06)
Smart phones and sensor technology represent a key part of everyday life and are being used in areas such as safety, training, healthcare and others. Utilizing an array of internal sensors and a metal detector requires an evaluation of the precision of the measurements and performance reviews. Metal detectors are versatile, with uses in healthcare as well as recreational, but a common issue often ...

Tangrand, Kristoffer Meyer; Singh, Harpal (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-05-19)
Ageing civil infrastructures such as bridges and building causes many consequences from practical and economical point of view. Especially in northern Norway, the impact of extreme arctic conditions is intense on civil engineering infrastructures (see \cite{Singh:2022:hologaland_Bridge}). With the increased loading due to the prosperous seafood industry and increased cargo activity is putting ...

The goal of this thesis is to perform analysis of local climate effects for Martineåsen development project in Larvik. The Norwegian regulatory acts place a strict requirements on outdoor areas comfort criteria and thus for the purpose of said development project, strict adherence to these acts is necessary. The outdoor comfort in cold climate is mostly governed by wind, and thus study of local ...
    • Analytical Approach to Describe Properties in Transition Zones Between Ballasted and Non-Ballasted Track

Ågotnes, Joachim Jørgensen (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2022-05-30)
Norway has for a long time used railways as a means of transport. This method of transportation been used to haul raw materials such as wood and ore. Trains have today become competitors to cars and other means of transportation as a way to commute. However, the tracks used when hauling heavy loads are still being used regardless if the train's goods are commuters or raw materials. Heavy freight ...

Hussnain, Farhan (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2022-05-16)
The additive manufacturing or 3D printing (3DP) technologies have undergone exponential expansion, particularly in the previous couple of decades. Additive manufacturing technologies have paved the way for easy component manufacturing in large-scale and high-performance businesses. The introduction of desktop 3D printers has established 3DP as a reliable technique for generating prototypes and direct ...
    • Asymptotic Behaviour of Ground States for Mixtures of Ferromagnetic and Antiferromagnetic Interactions in a Dilute Regime

Braides, Andrea; Causin, Andrea; Piatnitski, Andrey; Solci, Margherita (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2018-04-30)
We consider randomly distributed mixtures of bonds of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic type in a two-dimensional square lattice with probability 1−p 1−p and p, respectively, according to an i.i.d. random variable. We study minimizers of the corresponding nearest-neighbour spin energy on large domains in Z 2 Z2 . We prove that there exists p 0 p0 such that for p≤ p 0 p≤p0 such ...
    • Asymptotics of a spectral-sieve problem

Amirat, Youcef; Bodart, Olivier; Chechkin, Gregory; Piatnitski, Andrey (Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2015-11-18)
In a bounded domain with a thin periodically punctured interface we study the limit behavior of the bottom of spectrum for a Steklov type spectral problem, the Steklov boundary condition being imposed on the perforation surface. For a certain range of parameters we construct the effective spectral problem and justify the convergence of eigenpairs.
    • Asymptotics of fundamental solutions for time fractional equations with convolution kernels

Kondratiev, Yuri; Piatnitski, Andrey; Zhizhina, Elena (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2020-09-11)
The paper deals with the large time asymptotic of the fundamental solution for a time fractional evolution equation with a convolution type operator. In this equation we use a Caputo time derivative of order α ∈ (0, 1), and assume that the convolution kernel of the spatial operator is symmetric, integrable and shows a super-exponential decay at infinity. Under these assumptions we describe the ...
    • Atomized feedback, an approach to automatic formative assessment

Steen, Arild; Movik, Hans Richard (Peer reviewed; Chapter, 2017-11)
In this article, we describe an approach to give automatic formative evaluation by atomizing the feedback. The mechanics in this approach is a large number of multiple-choice tests. The multiplechoice tests are used as voluntary assignments and gives controlled progression by releasing the tests in an order. Instruction is in the spirit of flipped classroom with short video lectures accompanied by ...
    • Automatic Generation of Custom Image Recognition Models

Hanssen, Magnus Fredheim (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2022-05-15)
In this thesis, we examine the viability of training a convolutional neural network using synthetic data. The cnn is used for image recognition in an rms. We create a program that can render 3D models from STL files as images with varied backgrounds. The process of creating and training an image recognition model is also automated. Lastly, the model is used for image recognition. The report ...
    • Automatic verification of UI tests

Hagerup, Christopher Kragebøl (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2019-06-28)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate whether or not it is possible to perform automatic verification of UI Tests using Neural Networks. The problem being looked at is variance tied to the operating system, graphics card, or other hardware. This can cause false positives during UI testing, and thus we wanted to find a solution that could learn to ignore this, while still verifying the result. ...
    • Beam based finite element modelling of Herøysund bridge

Berg, Patrick Norheim (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2023-05-15)
In this thesis the candidate aims to model two finite elements models of the post tensioned concrete Herøysund bridge. First a solid element model is modelled using the documentation from the bridge construction, then a beam element model is modelled using the solid model as a foundation. These models are subjected to a structural analysis that applies boundary conditions, joints, mass, gravity, ...
    • Blending functions based on trigonometric and polynomial approximations of the Fabius function

Olofsen, Hans (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019)
Most simple blending functions are polynomials, while more advanced blending functions are, for example, rational or expo-rational fractions. The Fabius function has the required properties of a blending function, but is a nowhere analytic function and cannot be calculated exactly everywhere on the required domain. We present a new set of trigonometric and polynomial blending functions with the shape ...
    • Blending spline surfaces over polygon mesh and their application to isogeometric analysis

Kravetc, Tatiana (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-11)
Finite elements are allowed to be of a shape suitable for the specific problem. This choice defines thereafter the accuracy of the approximated solution. Moreover, flexible element shapes allow for the construction of an arbitrary domain topology. Polygon meshes are a common representation of the domain that cover any choice of the finite element shape. Being an alternative tool for modeling and ...

Abylayeva, AAkbota M; Oinarov, Ryskul; Persson, Lars Erik (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-12-13)
We establish characterizations of both boundedness and of compactness of a general class of fractional integral operators involving the Riemann-Liouville, Hadamard, and Erdelyi-Kober operators. In particular, these results imply new results in the theory of Hardy type inequalities. As applications both new and well-known results are pointed out.
