    • A NEW GENERALIZATION OF BOAS THEOREM FOR SOME LORENTZ SPACES Λq(ω)

Kopezhanova, Aigerim; Nursultanov, Erlan; Persson, Lars Erik (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018)
Let Λq( ω ), q > 0, denote the Lorentz space equipped with the (quasi) norm [<i>MATHEMATICAL FORMULA</I>] for a function f on [0,1] and with ω positive and equipped with some additional growth properties. A generalization of Boas theorem in the form of a two-sided inequality is obtained in the case of both general regular system [<i>MATHEMATICAL FORMULA</I>] and generalized Lorentz Λq( ω ) spaces
    • A new look at classical inequalities involving Banach lattice norms

Nikolova, Ludmila; Persson, Lars Erik; Varosanec, Sanja (Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-12-08)
Some classical inequalities are known also in a more general form of Banach lattice norms and/or in continuous forms (i.e., for ‘continuous’ many functions are involved instead of finite many as in the classical situation). The main aim of this paper is to initiate a more consequent study of classical inequalities in this more general frame. We already here contribute by discussing some results of ...
    • A note on contributions concerning nonseparable spaces with respect to signal processing within Bayesian frameworks

Samko, Natasha Gabatsuyevna; Singh, Harpal (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-07-17)
In this paper, we discuss the study of some signal processing problems within Bayesian frameworks and semigroups theory, in the case where the Banach space under consideration may be nonseparable. For applications, the suggested approach may be of interest in situations where approximation in the norm of the space is not possible. We describe the idea for the case of the abstract Cauchy problem ...
    • A note on the best constants in some hardy inequalities

Persson, Lars Erik; Samko, Stefan (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015)
Abstract. The sharp constants in Hardy type inequalities are known only in a few cases. In this paper we discuss some situations when such sharp constants are known, but also some new sharp constants are derived both in one-dimensional and multi-dimensional cases.
    • A note on the maximal operators of Vilenkin-Nörlund means with non-increasing coefficients

Memić, Nacima; Persson, Lars Erik; Tephnadze, George; Kroo, A (Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016)
In [14] we investigated some Vilenkin—Nörlund means with non-increasing coefficients. In particular, it was proved that under some special conditions the maximal operators of such summabily methods are bounded from the Hardy space H1/(1+α) to the space weak-L1/(1+α), (0 < α ≦ 1). In this paper we construct a martingale in the space H1/(1+α), which satisfies the conditions considered in [14], and so ...

In the environmental field, the problems of vibration reduction have become a major preoccupation, particularly on the noise generated by the acoustic radiation pressure produced by wind turbines. This paper is aimed at presenting the investigation on the application of FEM element method for study the acoustic radiation pressure produced by vertical-axis wind turbine. For this initiative, we ...

Nwankwo, Ebuka; Fallah, Arash Soleiman; Moatamedi, Mojtaba; Louca, Luke A. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-07-27)
This article presents a three-dimensional constitutive model to replicate the dynamic response of blast-loaded fibre–metal laminates made of 2024-0 aluminium alloy and woven composite (glass fibre–reinforced polypropylene). Simulation of the dynamic response is challenging when extreme localised loads are of concern and requires reliable material constitutive models as well as accurate modelling ...
    • On a New Class of Hardy-type Inequalities

Adeleke, EO; Cizmesija, Aleksandra; Oguntuase, JA; Persson, Lars Erik; Pokaz, D (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012-11-05)
In this paper, we generalize a Hardy-type inequality to the class of arbitrary non-negative functions bounded from below and above with a convex function multiplied with positive real constants. This enables us to obtain new generalizations of the classical integral Hardy, Hardy-Hilbert, Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya, and Pólya-Knopp inequalities as well as of Godunova’s and of some recently obtained ...
    • On geometric construction of some power means

Høibakk, Ralph; Lukkassen, Dag; Persson, Lars Erik; Meidell, Annette (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2018-11-27)
In the homogenization theory, there are many examples where the effective conductivities of composite structures are power means of the local conductivities. The main aim of this paper is to initiate research concerning geometric construction of some power means of three or more variables. We contribute by giving methods for the geometric construction of the harmonic mean $ P_{-1} $ and the arithmetic ...
    • On heat conduction in domains containing noncoaxial cylinders

Lukkassen, Dag; Meidell, Annette (Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2012)
We consider heat conduction in domains containing noncoaxial cylinders. In particular, we present some regularity results for the solution and consider criteria which ensure the single valueness of the corresponding complex potential. Examples are discussed. In addition, we present some classes of cases where the parameters describing the solution are rational. Alternative ways of calculating the ...

Shaimardan, Serikbol; Persson, Lars-Erik; Tokmagambetov, Nariman (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-01-19)
In this paper, we explore a generalised solution of the Cauchy problems for the q-heat and q-wave equations which are generated by Jackson’s and the q-Sturm-Liouville operators with respect to t and x, respectively. For this, we use a new method, where a crucial tool is used to represent functions in the Fourier series expansions in a Hilbert space on quantum calculus. We show that these solutions ...

Kufner, Alois; Persson, Lars-Erik; Samko, Natasha G. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-06)
For Lebesgue spaces on Rn, we study two-weight p → q-inequalities for Fourier transform. Some sufficient conditions on weights for such inequalities are known for special ranges of parameters p and q. In the same ranges of parameters we show, that in every case each of those conditions can be replaced by infinitely many conditions, even by continuous scales of conditions. We also ...

The paper gives a rigorous description, based on mathematical homogenization theory, for flows of solvents with not charged solute particles under osmotic pressure for periodic porous media permeable for solute particles. The effective Darcy type equations for the flow under osmotic pressure distributed within the porous media are derived. The effective Darcy law contains an additional flux term ...

Hanssen, Christian; Transeth, Aksel Andreas; Sanfilippo, Filippo; Liljebäck, Pål; Stavdahl, Øyvind (Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2020)
Development of snake robots have been motivated by the ability of snakes to move efficiently in unstructured and cluttered environments. A snake robot has the potential to utilise obstacles for generating locomotion, in contrast to wheeled robots which are unable to move efficiently in rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a local path planning algorithm for snake robots based on obstacle-aided ...
    • Periodic homogenization of nonlocal operators with a convolution-type kernel

Piatnitski, Andrey; Zhizhina, Elena (Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017)
The paper deals with a homogenization problem for a nonlocal linear operator with a kernel of convolution type in a medium with a periodic structure. We consider the natural diffusive scaling of this operator and study the limit behavior of the rescaled operators as the scaling parameter tends to 0. More precisely we show that in the topology of resolvent convergence the family of rescaled operators ...

Grigor'yan, Alexander; Kondratiev, Yuri; Piatnitski, Andrey; Zhizhina, Elena (Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2018-04-16)
We study the large‐time behaviour of the fundamental solution of parabolic equations with an elliptic part being non‐local convolution‐type operator. We assume that this operator is a generator of a Markov jump process, and that its convolution kernel decays at least exponentially at infinity. The fundamental solution shows rather different asymptotic behaviour depending on whether | x | ≲ t , or t ...
