The thesis analyzes Swedish complement clauses from the perspective of syntactic theory, focusing on the division into propositions, situations, and events that recent literature proposes as an explanation for several crosslinguistic complementation patterns. The thesis shows, through a survey of different Swedish complement types, that the theory is essentially supported, though some complications arise in accounting for certain effects, including reflexive ECM and inflection-copying. The thesis explores possible solutions to these problems, though many issues are shown to require further study.
