• Estimated and Measured GFR Associate Differently with Retinal Vasculopathy in the General Population

Eriksen, Bjørn Odvar; Løchen, Maja-Lisa; Arntzen, Kjell Arne; Bertelsen, Geir; Eilertsen, Britt-Ann; Hanno, Therese von; Herder, Marit; Jenssen, Trond Geir; Mathisen, Ulla Dorte; Melsom, Toralf; Njølstad, Inger; Solbu, Marit Dahl; Mathiesen, Ellisiv B. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015-11)
Background/Aims: Estimated GFR (eGFR) is used extensively in epidemiological research. Validations of eGFR have demonstrated acceptable performance, but the dependence of creatinine and cystatin C on non-GFR factors could confound associations with disease. Few studies have investigated this issue in direct comparison with measured GFR (mGFR). We compared the associations between eGFR and mGFR ...
• Estimated GFR is biased by non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors

Melsom, Toralf; Fuskevåg, Ole-Martin; Mathisen, Ulla Dorte; Strand, Harald; Schei, Jørgen; Jenssen, Trond Geir; Solbu, Marit Dahl; Eriksen, Bjørn Odvar (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2015-01-23)
Background: Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) based on either cystatin C or creatinine perform similarly in estimating measured GFR, but associate differently with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality. This could be due to confounding by non-GFRrelated traits associated with cystatin C and creatinine levels. We investigated non-GFRrelated associations between eGFR and two types ...
• Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR) based on cystatin C was associated with increased risk of hip and proximal humerus fractures in women and decreased risk of hip fracture in men, whereas eGFR based on creatinine was not associated with fracture risk in both sexes: The Tromsø Study

Nordvåg, Sofie; Solbu, Marit Dahl; Melsom, Toralf; Nissen, Frida Igland; Andreasen, Camilla; Borgen, Tove Tveitan; Eriksen, Bjørn Odvar; Joakimsen, Ragnar Martin; Bjørnerem, Åshild (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-04-14)
Purpose - Patients with end-stage kidney disease have an increased fracture risk. Whether mild to moderate reductions in kidney function is associated with increased fracture risk is uncertain. Results from previous studies may be confounded by muscle mass because of the use of creatinine-based estimates of the glomerular filtration rate (eGFRcre). We tested the hypothesis that lower eGFR ...
• Estimated lifetime risk of venous thromboembolism in men and women in a Danish nationwide cohort: impact of competing risk of death

Arnesen, Carl Arne Løchen; Veres, Katalin; Horváth-Puhó, Erzsébet; Hansen, John-Bjarne; Sørensen, Henrik Toft; Brækkan, Sigrid K. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-08)
Incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) risk varies by age and sex. Some studies have reported overall higher risk in men, especially when VTEs triggered by female reproductive factors are excluded. However, higher mortality rates in men may have led to overestimation of lifetime VTE risk in men compared with women. Therefore, we estimated the lifetime risk of VTE in men and women in a Danish, ...

Background: Studies on the health effects of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) call for an understanding of past and present human exposure. Time-resolved mechanistic models may supplement information on concentrations in individuals obtained from measurements and/or statistical approaches if they can be shown to reproduce empirical data.
Objectives: Here, we evaluated the capability of one ...
• Estimating treatment prolongation for persistent infections

Martinecz, Antal; Abel zur Wiesch, Pia (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-08-09)
Treatment of infectious diseases is often long and requires patients to take drugs even after they have seemingly recovered. This is because of a phenomenon called persistence, which allows small fractions of the bacterial population to survive treatment despite being genetically susceptible. The surviving subpopulation is often below detection limit and therefore is empirically inaccessible but can ...
• Estrogen receptor alpha gene polymorphism and endometrial cancer risk : a case-control study

Wedrén, Sara; Weiderpass, Elisabete; Lovmar, Lovisa; Humphreys, Keith; Magnusson, Cecilia; Melhus, Håkan; Syvänen, Ann-Christine; Kindmark, Andreas; Landegren, Ulf; Fermér, Maria Lagerström; Stiger, Fredrik; Persson, Ingemar; Baron, John A (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2008-11-06)
Background: Estrogen is an established endometrial carcinogen. One of the most important mediators of estrogenic action is the estrogen receptor alpha. We have investigated whether polymorphic variation in the estrogen receptor alpha gene (ESR1) is associated with endometrial cancer risk.
Methods: In 702 cases with invasive endometrial cancer and 1563 controls, we genotyped five markers ...
• Estrogen receptors α and β and aromatase as independent predictors for prostate cancer outcome

Grindstad, Thea Karoline Walstad (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2016-10-11)
Androgens are considered important in normal prostate physiology and prostate cancer (PCa) pathogenesis. However, androgen-targeted treatment preventing PCa recurrence is still lacking. This indicates additional mediators contributing to cancer development. We sought to determine the prognostic significance of estrogen receptors, ERα and -β, and the aromatase enzyme in PCa. Tissue microarrays ...

• Estrogen receptors α and β in the central amygdala and the ventromedial nucleus of the hypothalamus: Sociosexual behaviors, fear and arousal in female rats during emotionally challenging events

Le Moëne, Olivia; Stavarache, Mihaela; Ogawa, Sonoko; Musatov, Sergei; Ågmo, Anders (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-03-27)
Estrogens receptors (ER) are involved in several sociosexual behaviors and fear responses. In particular, the ERα is important for sexual behaviors, whereas ERβ modulates anxiolytic responses. Using shRNA directed either against the ERα or the ERβ RNAs (or containing luciferase control) encoded within an adeno-associated viral vector, we silenced these receptors in the ventromedial nucleus of the ...
• Estrogenic modulation of socio-sexual and fear-related behaviors in female rats: Properties of the estrogen receptors α and β in a procedure with external validity

Le Moëne, Olivia (Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2019-06-06)
A number of psychiatric troubles are distributed along a biased sex ratio. Differences in sex steroids levels, notably estradiol, could account for this bias. Differential expression and activation of the two known estrogen receptors (ER), α and β could result in different behavioral patterns. Indeed, these two receptors play an important, but unequal, role in the regulation of socio-sexual and ...
• Et blikk på barns vikår for fysisk aktivitet i barnehager. En komparativ studie, 1981 og 2009

Stokke, Anne (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2011-01-01)

Livik, Marit (Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2008-06)
