Ice conditions in northern Norwegian fjords: Observations and measurements from three winter seasons, 2017–2020
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-08-31)Freshwater provided by rivers beginning deep within the mountains, feeds into fjords along the coast of Norway, often forming a brackish surface layer that will change in its salinity, thickness, and extent throughout the year. As temperature drops below freezing, ice can form from this layer along the entire coastline from 71◦ N down to 58◦ N. The influence of freshwater combined with changing ... -

Stories of reconciliation enacted in the everyday lives of Sámi tourism entrepreneurs
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-04-23)Reconciliation has gained political interest in Norway, where a commission was established in 2018 to investigate the injustices committed in the past towards the Sámi and Kven. In this article, we argue that reconciliation can also be found in the small stories and events enacted in everyday life. Our analyses are based on a collaboration with a Sámi reindeer herding family who, through ... -

Recognising Psychoactive Drug Users
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-19)There has been growing discussion in Denmark regarding the decriminalisation of psychoactive drug use. In this context, we propose Axel Honneth’s theory of recognition as a useful approach to both understand the causes of dependency on psychoactive drugs and to provide an ethical lens through which to discuss whether drug use should be decriminalised or not. We propose that psychoactive drugs ... -
VEDA - moVE DAta to balance the grid: research directions and recommendations for exploiting data centers flexibility within the power system
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-03-17)This paper aims at discussing visions and research directions to investigate the value of data centers flexibility within sustainable electrical energy systems. While optimizing the energy consumption and task scheduling within data centers located in different time zones and connected at national and international level, it is possible to balance the local power grids, to allow a better penetration ... -
Categorising area models for stormwater fees at propert level: A literature review
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022)Worldwide, the increasing challenges due to stormwater run-off in urban areas are well known. Authorities need to be prepared for emergency situations and have plans for preventive measures to avoid flooded properties and public grounds. Several studies highlight that homeowner’s knowledge and awareness of their own flood risk, will lead to better protection and less damage. What is probably less ... -
The personality profile of IPS employment specialists, and how it relates to job satisfaction: A longitudinal cohort study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-08-23)The role of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) employment specialist is a new type of occupation within mental healthcare. High turnover among employment specialists necessitates improvement in their recruitment and retention. One element that impacts retention is job satisfaction. We assessed the personality of 38 employment specialists (Big 5 Inventory-2) and measured job satisfaction ... -

Synthesizing a Talking Child Avatar to Train Interviewers Working with Maltreated Children
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-06-01)When responding to allegations of child sexual, physical, and psychological abuse, Child Protection Service (CPS) workers and police personnel need to elicit detailed and accurate accounts of the abuse to assist in decision-making and prosecution. Current research emphasizes the importance of the interviewer’s ability to follow empirically based guidelines. In doing so, it is essential to implement ... -
The perspectives of nurse-midwives and doctors on clinical challenges of prolonged labor: A qualitative study from Tanzania
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-19)INTRODUCTION Globally, evidence suggests that one-third of nulliparous women experience delay in the first stage of labor with an increased risk of poor maternal and neonatal outcomes. With this study, we explore how clinical challenges related to prolonged labor are perceived by nurse-midwives and doctors in Tanzania.

METHODS A qualitative study with group interviews of either nurse-midwives ... -
Geomagnetic induced currents in long subsea power cables
(Research report; Forskningsrapport, 2022-09-16)This report focuses on geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) that can be induced in long subsea power cables. Literature indicates that the water depth itself, in which the cable will be laid, will not contribute to an attenuation of the geoelectric field for those water depths relevant for the Krafla power cable. However, the presence of a coast will introduce a strong enhancement. Even minor ... -
Detailed stratified GWAS analysis for severe COVID-19 in four European populations
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-07-15)Given the highly variable clinical phenotype of Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), a deeper analysis of the host genetic contribution to severe COVID-19 is important to improve our understanding of underlying disease mechanisms. Here, we describe an extended GWAS meta-analysis of a well-characterized cohort of 3255 COVID-19 patients with respiratory failure and 12 488 population controls from ... -

Circulating T Cell Activation and Exhaustion Markers Are Associated With Radiation Pneumonitis and Poor Survival in Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-07-14)Introduction: Persistent inflammation and immune activation in the lungs are associated with adverse outcomes such as radiation pneumonitis (RP) and poor survival in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. However, it is unknown how this is reflected by leukocyte activation markers in serum.

Objective: The aim was to evaluate the serum levels of activation of different leukocyte subsets ... -

The lateral trauma position: What do we know about it and how do we use it? A cross-sectional survey of all Norwegian emergency medical services
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2011-08-04)Background: Trauma patients are customarily transported in the supine position to protect the spine. The Airway, Breathing, Circulation, Disability, and Exposure (ABCDE) principles clearly give priority to airways. In Norway, the lateral trauma position (LTP) was introduced in 2005. We investigated the implementation and current use of LTP in Norwegian Emergency Medical Services (EMS).

Methods: ... -
Anti-PF4/polyanion antibodies in COVID-19 patients are associated with disease severity and pulmonary pathology
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-02-28)Thromboembolic events are frequent and associated with poor outcome in severe COVID-19 disease. Anti-PF4/polyanion antibodies are related to heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) and thrombus formation, but data on these antibodies in unselected COVID-19 populations are scarce. We assessed the presence of anti-PF4/polyanion antibodies in prospectively collected serum from an unselected cohort ... -
Elevated plasma levels of plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 are associated with risk of future incident venous thromboembolism
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-03-15)Background: Plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1), the main inhibitor of fibrinolysis, is frequently elevated in obesity and could potentially mediate the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in obese subjects. However, whether PAI-1 is associated with VTE remains uncertain.

Objective: To investigate the association between plasma PAI-1 levels and risk of future incident VTE and whether ...
