A multi-proxy approach for reconstructing oceanographic dynamics during the Holocene Development and Application of benthic foraminifera as proxies in the Polar North Atlantic
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2014-10-23)Two sediment cores and several sediment surface samples have been retrieved in order to develop and apply benthic foraminifera as proxies in the Polar North Atlantic. The purpose of the surface samples was to develop the Mg/Ca method for cold water environments, as this has been proven a valuable paleo-thermometer for several marine environments. This was done for three species of Benthic foraminifera: ... -
A Concise Total Synthesis of Breitfussin A and B
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014)The first total synthesis of breitfussin A and B is described. The approach features two palladium-catalyzed cross-couplings installing the indole and pyrrole onto the oxazole core and selective lithiation/iodination of a common indole–oxazole fragment providing 2,4-diiodinated or 2-iodinated oxazoles as potential precursors for breitfussin A and B, respectively. An unexpected acid promoted deiodination ... -
Statistical methods for scale-invariant and multifractal stochastic processes.
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2014-10-03)This thesis focuses on stochastic modeling, and statistical methods, in finance and in climate science. Two financial markets, short-term interest rates and electricity prices, are analyzed. We find that the evidence of mean reversion in short-term interest rates is week, while the “log-returns” of electricity prices have significant anti-correlations. More importantly, empirical analyses confirm ... -

Multi-Locality Based Local and Symbiotic Computing for Interactively fast On-Demand Weather Forecasting for Small Regions, Short Durations, and Very High-Resolutions
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2014-09-19)Modern weather forecasting is based on forecasts from huge numerical models executed on large supercomputer clusters in large computer centers. Production deadlines for forecast and available computational resources are the main factors for having to limit the forecast region size, spatial resolution, forecast duration and detail level of the weather model used. Modern numerical models currently ... -

Selection of a high performance alloy for gas turbine blade using multiphysics analysis
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-04-03)With the extensive increase in the utilization of energy resources in the modern era, the need of energy extraction from various resources has pronounced in recent years. Thus comprehensive efforts have been made around the globe in the technological development of turbo machines where means of energy extraction is energized fluids. This development led the aviation industry to power boost due to ... -
Multiphysics design optimization for aerospace applications: Case study on helicopter loading hanger
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014)This paper presents the Multiphysics technique applied in the design optimization of a loading hanger for an aerial crane. In this study, design optimization is applied on the geometric modelling of a part being used in an aerial crane operation. A set of dimensional and loading requirements are provided. Various geometric models are built using SolidWorks® Computer Aided Design (CAD) Package. In ... -
