Experimental validation of icing rate using rotational load
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-04-16)Icing load and icing rate are necessary feedback variables for an intelligent anti/de-icing systemtowork effectively in harsh cold environment of high north. These parametersmay be measured by axial loadings or by rotational loadings, as a function of current demand. However the former may not necessarily be dynamic, whereas the later necessarily be rotational. Sufficiently at a fixed rpm, a ... -

(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016)A design study of an atmospheric icing sensor is presented in this article. The proposed design of the sensor is aimed to detect an atmospheric icing event, to determine ice type as well as to measure icing load, icing rate and melting rate. This sensor is constantly slowly rotating cylinder with four fins which measure atmospheric icing load and icing rate using rotational load measurement technique. ... -

A Goal Programming Approach for Green Supply Chain Network Optimization
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2016-10)Green supply chain management has been focused by both academicians and practitioners in recent years due to the increased public awareness on environmental problems and sustainable development. In this paper, a decision aided model for green supply chain network design and optimization is proposed to justify both economic and environmental performance in an optimal fashion. The model is formulated ... -

Conceptual framework, mathematical programming and computational algorithms have been developed for decision making at strategic, tactical and operational levels of a reverse ... -
Modelled and observed sea-spray icing in Arctic-Norwegian waters
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-11-15)Hazardous marine icing is a major concern for ships operating in Arctic waters during freezing conditions. Sea spray generated by the interaction between a ship and ocean waves is the most important water source in these dangerous icing events. Although there exist several data sets with observations of ice accretion in conjunction with meteorological and oceanographic parameters, these data sets ... -
Thaw Penetration in Frozen Ground Subjected to Hydronic Heating
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-09-22)To facilitate excavation and foundation work in seasonally freezing or permafrost regions, the frozen soil must be thawed, either by natural (solar) thawing, or by artificial thawing where an auxiliary heat source is utilized to accelerate the process. In this paper, the process of rapid thawing of frozen ground subject to hydronic heating is studied. In particular, the performance characteristics ... -
Biogas from Organic Waste - A Case Study
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-07-01)This paper presents a case study to investigate the potential for upgrade of a bio-waste treatment plant. The paper also discusses development potentials in order to optimize the plant for maximum energy and environmental benefits. Data gathered over two consecutive years about the production of biogas, energy and bio-rest were considered and mass balance analysis of inputs and outputs of the ... -
Some sharp inequalities for integral operators with homogeneous kernel
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-04-09)One goal of this paper is to show that a big number of inequalities for functions in Lp(R+), p ≥ 1, proved from time to time in journal publications are particular cases of some known general results for integral operators with homogeneous kernels including, in particular, the statements on sharp constants. Some new results are also included, e.g. the similar general equivalence result is proved and ... -
Optimization of long-term performance of municipal solid waste management system: A bi-objective mathematical model
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2015)Management of municipal solid waste has becoming an extremely important topic for any urban authorities in recent years due to the rapidly increasing solid waste quantity and potential environmental pollution. In this paper, a bi-objective dynamic linear programming model is developed for decision making and supporting in the long-term operation of municipal solid waste management system. The proposed ... -
A green supply chain network design model for enhancing competitiveness and sustainability of companies in high north arctic regions
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2014)To survive in today's competitive and ever-changing marketplace, companies need not only to engage in their products and/or services, but also to focus on the management of the whole supply chain. Effectively managing and balancing the profitability and interconnection of each player in the supply chain will improve the overall supply chain surplus as well as individual profit. However, it is extremely ... -

Sharp Hp-Lp type inequalities of weighted maximal operators of Vilenkin-Nörlund means and its applications
(Peer reviewed; Journal article; Tidsskriftsartikkel, 2016-10-01)We prove and discuss some new Hp-Lp type inequalities of weighted maximal operators of Vilenkin-Nörlund means with monotone coefficients. It is also proved that these inequalities are the best possible in a special sense. We also apply these results to prove strong summability for such Vilenkin-Nörlund means. As applications, both some well-known and new results are pointed out. -

Modeling Bottom-Up Visual Attention Using Dihedral Group D4
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-08-15)In this paper, first, we briefly describe the dihedral group D4 that serves as the basis for calculating saliency in our proposed model. Second, our saliency model makes two major changes in a latest state-of-the-art model known as group-based asymmetry. First, based on the properties of the dihedral group D4, we simplify the asymmetry calculations associated with the measurement of saliency. ... -
Subsumption architecture applied to flight control using composite rotations
(Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel; Journal article, 2016-03-19)In this paper the subsumption theory is applied to flight control through composite rotations where multiple tasks can be defined as simple rotations. The tasks can then be arranged as a hierarchy, where the primary task is always fully pursued, and conflicting lower level tasks are removed by the primary rotation. The concept is applied to a group of uavs that move through an urban terrain while ... -

Shock Tube. Detail overview of equipment and instruments in the shock tube experimental setup
(Book; Bok, 2015)The shock tube is a device in which a normal shock wave is produced by the interaction of fluids at significantly high-pressure difference. The shock tube is comprised of two sections known as driver and driven sections. These two sections are interacted with the high-speed valve or a bursting disc. When the interaction happens, a shock wave forms almost instantaneously and propagates into the driven ... -
A Decoupled Approach for Flight Control
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016)A decoupling method for flight control is presented that greatly simplifies the controller design. By approximating the higher order derivatives of the angle of attack and sideslip, it enables a rotation controller and a speed controller to be derived independently of each other, and thus gives access to a vast number of controller solutions derived for general classes of rotational and translational ... -
