Beam based finite element modelling of Herøysund bridge
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2023-05-15)In this thesis the candidate aims to model two finite elements models of the post tensioned concrete Herøysund bridge. First a solid element model is modelled using the documentation from the bridge construction, then a beam element model is modelled using the solid model as a foundation. These models are subjected to a structural analysis that applies boundary conditions, joints, mass, gravity, ... -
Design of a Process Control System for Combustion Regulation by Moisture Content Measurement in Biomass Feed
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2023-05-15)Biomass has the capacity to generate a major part of the global renewable energy demands due to its large supply, versatility, and readily exploitable nature. Biomass can be produced from natural sources like wood waste, grasses, trees, and fast-growing energy crops. Biomass wood chips are produced from crushed trees and can be fed into combustion systems to supply heat energy to buildings. However, ... -
Experimental Study on the Surgical Microenvironment in an Operating Room with Mixing Ventilation under Positive and Negative Pressure
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2021)Due to the outbreak of Covid-19, negative pressure operating room (NPOR) are strongly recommended to be applied to prevent spreading virus from infected patients to adjacent rooms during surgery procedures. However, there have been few experimental studies on the effect of OR pressure difference on the surgical microenvironment. This study aims to experimentally investigate the airflow distribution ... -
Load modeling from smart meter data using neural network methods
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2021)Electricity load modeling plays a critical role to conduct load forecasting or other applications such as non-intrusive load monitoring. For such a reason, this paper investigates a comparison study of two common artificial neural network methods (Multilayer perceptron (MLP) and radial basis function neural network (RBF-NN) for home load modeling application. The accuracy of load modeling using ... -
Path Planning for Perception-Driven Obstacle-Aided Snake Robot Locomotion
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2020)Development of snake robots have been motivated by the ability of snakes to move efficiently in unstructured and cluttered environments. A snake robot has the potential to utilise obstacles for generating locomotion, in contrast to wheeled robots which are unable to move efficiently in rough terrain. In this paper, we propose a local path planning algorithm for snake robots based on obstacle-aided ... -
The application of open access middleware for cooperation among heterogeneous manufacturing systems
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2020)The vision behind industry 4.0 is to create even smarter manufacturing facilities. Industry 4.0 includes both hardware and software components, which are expected to seamlessly interact in a secure manner. Thus, machinery and software components from different manufacturers should be able to communicate in a common language. Such a challenge is typically met by introducing a “middleware” to serve ... -
Tailored Iterated Greedy metaheuristic for a scheduling problem in metal 3D printing
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-24)This article contributes to the additive manufacturing-based production planning literature by developing a Mixed-Integer Linear Programming (MILP) formulation for the Identical Parallel 3D-Printing Machines Scheduling Problem considering batching, multiple build platforms of restricted sizes, and sequence-independent setup times. Besides, a customized metaheuristic, named the Tailored Iterated ... -
DEVELOPMENT OF METHOD AND CRITERIA FOR EVALUATION OF DRY-WASHING EFFICIENCY WITH RE-CON ZERO EVO
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2022)Society recognises the need for the preservation of nature and the need for better resource utilisation. Integration of good practice in the building industry is mainly targeted at reducing or completely eliminating waste. One of the waste sources in the concrete industry is created in washing facilities and consists of returned concrete, washing water and cement slurry. Concrete trucks are washed ... -
Evaluation of optimal replacement of natural aggregates by recycled concrete aggregates to achieve sufficient durability
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2022)The use of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) is one way to reduce the depletion of raw materials for the production of concrete. In this article RCA was tested and evaluated. Concrete with 25 to 80 % of RCA was examined in terms of its durability performance, particularly capillary absorption and shrinkage. Capillary absorption testing showed that RCA has better or identical results as the reference ... -
Learning Through Action: On the Use of Logistics4.0 Lab as Learning Developer
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2022-01-01)The concept of learning factory is taking more and more hold as teaching method, especially after the advent of Industry 4.0 (I4.0). Learning factories have in fact proved to be effective in developing knowledge and skills necessary for students to master the potentialities of adopting new I4.0 technologies in several aspects of production and logistics systems. Driven by these potentialities and ... -
Simulation of Robotic Tasks with VALIP System - Practical Application
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2013)In manufacturing engineering, man-machine interaction has gone from typical online programming techniques into virtual reality based offline programming methodologies. Today, a wide range of offline software tools is used to imitate, simulate and control real manufacturing systems. However, these new methodologies lack capability when it comes to human-machine communication. This paper aims to ... -
Generalized Chessboard Structures Whose Effective Conductivities Are Integer Valued
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012-03-06)We consider generalized chessboard structures where the local conductivity takes two values 𝑎 and 𝑏 . All integer combinations of 𝑎 and 𝑏 which make the components of effective conductivity matrix integer valued are found. Moreover, we discuss the problem of estimating the effective conductivity matrix by using the finite-element method. -

Classification of Bulk Cargo Types Stored Openly at Ports Using CNN
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023)In this paper, we present a novel concept of tracking cargoes at open ports using remote sensing images and convolution neural network (CNN) to classify various dry bulk commodities. The dataset used is prepared using Sentinel-2 atmospherically corrected (Sentinel-2 L2A) images covering 12 spectral bands. There are total 4995 labeled and geo-referenced images for four different cargoes-bauxite, ... -
Blending spline surfaces over polygon mesh and their application to isogeometric analysis
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-11)Finite elements are allowed to be of a shape suitable for the specific problem. This choice defines thereafter the accuracy of the approximated solution. Moreover, flexible element shapes allow for the construction of an arbitrary domain topology. Polygon meshes are a common representation of the domain that cover any choice of the finite element shape. Being an alternative tool for modeling and ... -

Some New Weak (Hp- Lp)-Type Inequality for Weighted Maximal Operators of Partial Sums of Walsh–Fourier Series
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-08-18)In this paper, we introduce some new weighted maximal operators of the partial sums of the Walsh–Fourier series. We prove that for some “optimal” weights these new operators indeed are bounded from the martingale Hardy space Hp(G) to the Lebesgue space weak−Lp(G), for 0<p<1. Moreover, we also prove sharpness of this result. As a consequence we obtain some new and well-known ...
