In recent years, a new gender marker has emerged in Spanish that is identified as inclusive. This marker gives rise to nouns with three forms of gender -niño, niña, niñe–. The objective of this work is to remove this issue from political or social considerations and examine the internal grammatical features that this new form has, as a way to frame any social debate on the phenomenon, which we consider to be subsequent to an analysis of the internal linguistic conditions. The results show that, against some criticisms that have been raised, inclusive gender does not imply a break from the rules of Spanish and should be considered a phenomenon of variation that has strict rules that are internalized in the grammar of speakers.
