How language barriers affect the quality of health care in resettling refugees : a synthesis of studies about refugees' perceptions of health care, especially primary health care in European host countries

Abstract

This thesis provides a wider insight and explores the multiple problems and challenges resettling refugees and other migrants do face settling in a new country. Pointing to the persistence of traumatic experiences at different levels and the high risk of diseases, the need for health services and care should be prioritized. However, the issue of language seems to be one of the major barriers refugees encounter when seeking medical attention. To ascertain the quality of health care received, it is important to explore the views or perceptions of refugees themselves in order to see the level of impact language barrier has on their individual and collective health.
