International law relating to the outer limits of maritime zones in the context of sea level rise

Abstract

This thesis will procure to examine the potential effects of sea level rise for coastal States’ baselines and the outer limits of maritime zones, and thus specifically discuss the following research questions: a) What is the current international legal regime for the establishment of maritime zones? b) What are the potential legal implications of sea level rise for baselines and the outer limits of maritime zones that are determined pursuant to such baselines? c) Is the current international law adequate to address the maintenance of the outer limits of maritime zones in the context of sea level rise? d) What legal measures can be adopted to mitigate the potential impacts of sea level rise on baselines and the establishment of maritime zones?
