TIL-spilleran e Gutan, det e ingen andre

Abstract

Denne avhandlingen undersøker lokale fotballsupportere i Tromsø sitt forhold til tromsødialekt og andre semiotiske ressurser som identitetsmarkører. Empirien i studien baserer seg på tre kvalitative forskningsintervju gjort med tre ulike supportere av fotballklubben Tromsø Idrettslag (TIL). Supporterne representerer hver sine generasjoner av TIL-supportere, og har ulike forhold til klubben og byen, noe som bidrar til komplementære perspektiver og erfaringer på temaet. Jeg har analysert supporternes perspektiver og erfaringer på bakgrunn av hvordan og hvorfor tromsødialekta og spesifikke semiotiske ressurser utrykker identitet og tilhørighet til TIL.

Funnene i analysen viser at tromsødialekt og andre meningsbærende semiotiske ressurser knyttet til TIL og Tromsø, er essensielle for å skape tilknytning mellom supporterne og supporterressurser. Supporterne peker på dialektord, stadionnavn, fenomener som er særegne for Nord-Norge, historiske hendelser, merkevarer og klubbfarger som viktige identitetsmarkører for TIL-supportere. Den kanskje viktigste identitetsmarkøren for klubben, er dialektordet og kallenavnet Gutan. Gutan har siden 1980-tallet vært en sentral del av TILs historie, og representerer på mange måter den tradisjonelle tromsødialekta. Gutan fungerer også som en form for sosial differensiering, der supportere bruker det særegne kallenavnet for å skille seg fra andre lags supportere.

Studien retter også fokuset mot den fremadstormende supporter- og tribunekulturen rundt TIL og i Tromsø, der essensialistiske og konstruktivistiske måter å uttrykke identitet på møtes. Vi kan se at supportergruppene Forza Tromsø og Álfheimar er opptatte av å bevare og bruke klubbens tradisjoner og historie, samtidig som de ønsker å være innovative, utviklingsorientert og hente inspirasjon fra supporterkulturer rundt omkring i Europa. Målet til supportergruppene er imidlertid alltid det samme, å skape identitetsfølelse og tilhørighet til TIL og Tromsø.

This study investigates local football supporters in Tromsø, and their relationship to the Tromsø dialect and other semiotic resources as identity markers. The empiricism in the study is based on three qualitative research interviews, done with three different supporters of Tromsø Idrettslag (TIL). Each supporter represents different generations of TIL supporters, with the supporters having different relationships to the club and the city. This contributes complementary to the study, with the possibility of different perspectives and experiences on the subject. I have analysed the perspectives and experiences of the supporters based on how and why the Tromsø dialect and specific semiotic resources expresses identity and a sense of belonging to TIL.

The findings of the analysis shows that the use of the Tromsø dialect and other meaningful semiotic resources connected to TIL and Tromsø, are essential to create a connection between the supporters and supporter resources. The supporters’ points towards specific dialect words, the name of the stadium, phenomena that are distinctive to Northern Norway, historic events, brands and colours of the club, as important identity markers for TIL supporters. Possibly the most important identity marker for the club, is however the dialect word and the nick name Gutan. Gutan has since the 1980s been a central part of the club history, and in many ways, the word represents the traditional Tromsø dialect. Gutan also works as a form of social differentiation, in the sense that TIL supporters use the distinctive nickname to separate themselves from other team’s supporters.

The study also focuses on the up-and-coming supporter culture in and around TIL and Tromsø, where essentialist and constructivist ways to express identity meet. We can see that the supporter groups of Forza Tromsø and Álfheimar are concerned with using and preserving the club’s history and traditions, as well as wanting to be innovative, development-oriented and draw inspiration from supporter cultures all around Europe. However, the goal always remains the same, to create a sense of identity and belonging to TIL and Tromsø.
