Abstract
Modern day systems increasingly rely on data-driven insights derived from IoT networks. However, the resource-constrained nature of IoT devices creates significant challenges when outsourcing computations to third-party services, particularly regarding data integrity. This thesis investigates the feasibility of combining a homomorphic signature protocol with a pairing delegation scheme to provide strong integrity guarantees for both raw and computed data. The work is performed through the design and implementation of a protocol consisting of three main components: a client for data collection and signing, a server for computation, and a verifier for integrity checking. By exploring the potential of these cryptographic primitives in resource-constrained environments, the thesis aims to contribute to potential development of trusted data integrity solutions in IoT. The work provided in the thesis includes the account of the design and implementation of the protocol through two iterative versions. An evaluation of the performance and memory consumption of the protocol is also included, identifying resource requirements and compatibility with different classes of IoT devices. In conclusion, the prototype system and work included in the thesis lays a foundation for the viability of homomorphic signatures and pairing delegation as means to ensure data integrity in IoT environments.
