This paper presents design considerations for hydrogen-based fuel cell distributed generation units for electricity production in isolated energy systems and vehicles with periodic load pattern, replacing fossil fuel engines. Transient loads, inrush currents, fault currents that may occur in the power system is described. An optimization algorithm is used to find optimal component selection based on the load profile and cost parameters.en_US
