Forskjeller i funksjonell konnektivitet i cerebrale nettverk og eksekutivfunksjoner mellom pasienter med anorexia nervosa og friske kontroller

Abstract
Denne studien fokuserte på kognitive og cerebrale faktorer i anorexia nervosa (AN). Tidligere forskning har antydet at pasienter med AN har endret funksjonell konnektivitet i cerebrale hvilenettverk, samt svekket eksekutiv funksjon, sammenlignet med friske personer. Med utgangspunkt i tidligere forskning forventet vi at pasientgruppen i denne studien ville fremvise endret funksjonell konnektivitet sammenlignet med en kontrollgruppe. I tillegg var det en forventning om at eventuelle svekkelser i eksekutive funksjoner ville samvariere med endret funksjonell konnektivitet. Undersøkelsene av disse hypotesene ble gjennomført ved hjelp av to tester for eksekutive funksjoner og en test av kognitivt evnenivå, samt hjerneavbildingsteknikk i form av resting state-functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI). I tillegg ble det innhentet informasjon om komorbide psykiske lidelser. Et mellomgruppedesign ble benyttet, med totalt 26 deltakere i alderen 15-19 år. Pasientgruppen besto av 13 jenter mens 13 jenter utgjorde den friske kontrollgruppen. Det ble identifisert 9 cerebrale hvilenettverk, hvorav 2 av disse nettverkene (sensomotorisk nettverk og høyre eksekutivt nettverk) viste signifikant svakere intra-nettverks konnektivitet hos pasientgruppen sammenlignet med den friske kontrollgruppen. Det ble også funnet at AN-gruppen presterte dårligere enn kontrollgruppen på tester av sensomotorisk funksjon og spatial problemløsningsevne. Det antas at svekket funksjonell konnektivitet i cerebrale hvilenettverk kan ha bidratt til den svekkede prestasjonen på de eksekutive testene i pasientgruppen. Disse funnene kan bidra til å beskrive hvordan dysfunksjonelle eksekutive profiler hos AN-pasienter kan knyttes til alterert funksjonell konnektivitet i cerebrale hvilenettverk. Styrker og svakheter ved studien er også diskutert.
