On a New Class of Hardy-type Inequalities
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012-11-05)In this paper, we generalize a Hardy-type inequality to the class of arbitrary non-negative functions bounded from below and above with a convex function multiplied with positive real constants. This enables us to obtain new generalizations of the classical integral Hardy, Hardy-Hilbert, Hardy-Littlewood-Pólya, and Pólya-Knopp inequalities as well as of Godunova’s and of some recently obtained ... -
Use of two-part regression calibration model to correct for measurement error in episodically consumed foods in a single-replicate study design: EPIC case study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-11-17)In epidemiologic studies, measurement error in dietary variables often attenuates association between dietary intake and disease occurrence. To adjust for the attenuation caused by error in dietary intake, regression calibration is commonly used. To apply regression calibration, unbiased reference measurements are required. Short-term reference measurements for foods that are not consumed daily ... -
Resemblance Reporting on Children: Sisters Are More Proactive than Brothers
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-05-02)The asymmetric grandparental investment in humans may ultimately be explained by the paternity uncertainty hypothesis. The proximate mechanisms leading to grandparental bias in investment in grandchildren are, however, unclear. In a study of 233 males and females with an opposite sexed sibling, we examined whether comments on resemblance regarding one’s own child, or one’s sibling’s child, ... -
Play in two languages. Language alternation and code-switching in role-play in North Sámi and Norwegian
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2013-01-30)This article analyses how children in a Sámi kindergarten use their languages, North Sámi and Norwegian, in everyday life. My focus is on role-play in periods of free play in a kindergarten where children speak both North Sámi and Norwegian. Role-play is a bilingual context in that one sequence of play most often uses elements from both languages. Role-play as a situation is suitable for studying ... -
"Naturfolk" i teori og praksis: Skildringen av samene og den nordlige kulturen i Knud Rasmussens Lapland"
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-07-25)This article focuses on the portrayal of reindeer Sami in the Danish explorer Knud Rasmussen's early book Lapland from 1907, a work that has received relatively little attention in Rasmussen scholarship. His characterizations of the Sami reflect conventional, paternalistic ideas of race and culture at the turn of the century as well as romantic-sentimental conceptions of indigenous peoples as noble ... -
Dostevsky's novels as classic tragedies
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-11-16)Friedrich Nietzsche’s treatise “Die Geburt der Tragödie aus dem Geiste der Musik” (1872) has, with the symbolist poet and critic Vyacheslav Ivanov as an important intermediary, exerted a strong influence on Dostoevsky scholarship which can be traced up to this day. The present short paper discusses some aspects of this tradition of interpretation. -

Stable isotope evidence for late Medieval (14th-15th C) origins of the eastern Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) fishery
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2011-11-16)Although recent historical ecology studies have extended quantitative knowledge of eastern Baltic cod (Gadus morhua) exploitation back as far as the 16th century, the historical origin of the modern fishery remains obscure. Widespread archaeological evidence for cod consumption around the eastern Baltic littoral emerges around the 13th century, three centuries before systematic documentation, but ... -
At the source of the polarisation of auroral emissions: experiments and modeling
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-01)A polarised radiative transfer model (POMEROL) has been developed to compute the polarisation measured by a virtual instrument in a given nocturnal environment. This single-scattering model recreates real-world conditions (among them atmospheric and aerosol profiles, light sources with complex geometries at the ground and in the sky, terrain obstructions). It has been successfully tested at mid-latitudes ... -
On Optimizing Transaction Fees in Bitcoin using AI: Investigation on Miners Inclusion Pattern
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-09)The transaction-rate bottleneck built into popular proof-of-work-based cryptocurrencies, like Bitcoin and Ethereum, leads to fee markets where transactions are included according to a first-price auction for block space. Many attempts have been made to adjust and predict the fee volatility, but even well-formed transactions sometimes experience unexpected delays and evictions unless a substantial ... -
Cerebral structural and functional changes in adolescent females with anorexia nervosa
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2022-05-25)Cerebral structural changes are associated with acute AN. Volume reduction is found in several regions, but it is unclear if this is a global phenomenon and how other morphological measures are affected. Cortical thickness (CTh) and surface area (CSA) are morphometrics that are less studied and develop with different trajectories in adolescence, when AN normally debuts. Alterations in the brains ... -
Immobilization of muskoxen (Ovibos moschatus) with etorphine and xylazine
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2011-06-27)One hundred and thirty three “wild” muskoxen, 81 of which of known body mass, were successfully immobilized using etorphine (M99), and xylazine (Rompun®), delivered by use of a dart gun. A dose of 0.05 mg/kg M99, supplemented by 0.15 mg/kg Rompun was found to be very effective. This dose is much higher than currently recommended e.g. by Handbook of Wildlife Chemical Immobilization. -
Methane hydrate formation in Ulleung basin under conditions of variable salinity: reduced model and experiments
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-06-13)In this paper, we present a reduced model of methane hydrate formation in variable salinity conditions, with details on the equilibrium phase behavior adapted to a case study from Ulleung Basin. The model simplifies the comprehensive model considered by Liu and Flemings using common assumptions on hydrostatic pressure, geothermal gradient, and phase incompressibility, as well as a simplified ... -
Biologics: the role of delivery systems in improved therapy
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-03-19)The beginning of the 21st century saw numerous protein and peptide therapeuticals both on the market and entering the final stages of clinical studies. They represent a new category of biologically originated drugs termed biologics or biologicals. Their main advantages over conventional drugs can be summarized by their high selectivity and potent therapeutic efficacy coupled with limited side ... -
Tundra vegetation ecology from the sky - Aerial images and photogrammetry as tools to monitor landscape change
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2022-05-24)Long-term temperature increases, higher frequencies of extreme weather events and changes in food web structures will all affect the state of Arctic tundra ecosystems at different temporal and spatial scales. Ecologists are tasked with understanding these biotic and abiotic interactions and finding methods to measure them. This thesis applies new technology and methods within the principles of ... -
The prognostic ease and difficulty of invasive breast carcinoma
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-10-02)Breast carcinoma (BC) has been extensively profiled by high-throughput technologies for over a decade, and broadly speaking, these studies can be grouped into those that seek to identify patient subtypes (studies of heterogeneity) or those that seek to identify gene signatures with prognostic or predictive capacity. The sheer number of reported signatures has led to speculation that everything ... -
The Space for Restorative Justice in the Ethiopian Criminal Justice System
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-12-31)Restorative Justice (RJ) is an alternative way of apprehending crime and justice which views crime as a violation of a relationship among victims, offenders and community, and which allows the active participation of the crime’s stakeholders. It has the objective of ‘putting right’ the wrong done, to restore the broken relationship and to reintegrate the offender back into society. The Ethiopian ... -
