Den nærmere problemstillingen i oppgaven er hva som er innholdet i kriminalitetsalternativet, samt hvilken betydning ... -
Does the Infectious Status of Aphids Influence Their Preference Towards Healthy, Virus-Infected and Endophytically Colonized Plants?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-11)Aphids (Hemiptera: Aphididae) cause significant damage and transmit viruses to various crop plants. We aimed to evaluate how the infectious status of aphids influences their interaction with potential hosts. Two aphid (Myzus persicae and Rhopalosiphum padi) and plant (Nicotiana tabacum and Triticum aestivum) species were used. The preferences of aphids towards healthy, virus-infected (Potato Leafroll ... -
Best environmental predictors of breeding phenology differ with elevation in a common woodland bird species
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-08-17)Temperatures in mountain areas are increasing at a higher rate than the Northern Hemisphere land average, but how fauna may respond, in particular in terms of phenology, remains poorly understood. The aim of this study was to assess how elevation could modify the relationships between climate variability (air temperature and snow melt‐out date), the timing of plant phenology and egg‐laying date of ... -
Are the Relationships of Lean Mass and Fat Mass With Bone Microarchitecture Causal or Due to Familial Confounders? A Novel Study of Adult Female Twin Pairs
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-01)It is not known whether the relationships of lean mass (LM) and fat mass (FM) with bone microarchitecture and geometry are causal and/or are because of confounders, including familial confounders arising from genetic and environment effects shared by relatives. We tested the hypotheses that: (i) LM is associated with cortical bone traits, (ii) FM is associated with trabecular bone traits, and (iii) ... -
Small calcium isotope fractionation at slow precipitation rates in methane seep authigenic carbonates
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-04-01)Natural calcium carbonate minerals express a range of calcium isotope fractionations, with the precipitated mineral typically enriched in the lighter isotopes of calcium relative to source fluids. Experimental and theoretical evidence shows a strong dependence on precipitation rate, although this relationship has not been well quantified over the range of precipitation rates observed in natural ... -
Arctic sea-ice loss fuels extreme European snowfall
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-04-01)The loss of Arctic sea-ice has been implicated with severe cold and snowy mid-latitude winters. However, the mechanisms and a direct link remain elusive due to limited observational evidence. Here we present atmospheric water vapour isotope measurements from Arctic Finland during ‘the Beast from the East’—a severe anticyclonic outbreak that brought heavy snowfall and freezing across Europe in February ... -
Dense dilated convolutions merging network for land cover classification
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-03-06)Land cover classification of remote sensing images is a challenging task due to limited amounts of annotated data, highly imbalanced classes, frequent incorrect pixel-level annotations, and an inherent complexity in the semantic segmentation task. In this article, we propose a novel architecture called the dense dilated convolutions' merging network (DDCM-Net) to address this task. The proposed ... -
Machine Learning for Arctic Sea Ice Physical Properties Estimation Using Dual-Polarimetric SAR Data
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-09-22)This work introduces a novel method that combines machine learning (ML) techniques with dual-polarimetric (dual-pol) synthetic aperture radar (SAR) observations for estimating quad-polarimetric (quad-pol) parameters, which are presumed to contain geophysical sea ice information. In the training phase, the output parameters are generated from quad-pol observations obtained by Radarsat-2 (RS2), and ... -
Retrieval of Marine Surface Slick Dielectic Properties From Radarsat-2 Data via a Polarimetric Two-Scale Model
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-02-27)We propose the use of a polarimetric two-scale surface scattering model to retrieve the dielectric parameters of oil slick from the polarimetric synthetic aperture radar. The ocean surface is modeled as an ensemble of randomly orientated, slightly roughened, tilted facets, for which the small perturbation model is assumed to be valid under the condition of no tilt. The orientation of the random ... -
Fatty acid composition of the postlarval daubed shanny (Leptoclinus maculatus) during the polar night
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-04-23)Recent discoveries of high levels of biological activity in the Arctic marine ecosystems during the polar night raise questions regarding the ecophysiology of the pelagic postlarval daubed shanny Leptoclinus maculatus. Of special interest is the composition of the lipid sac—a unique feature not found in other Arctic fishes. Analysis of the fatty acid content of major classes of lipids as membrane—total ... -
