Hypothermia and cardiac electrophysiology: a systematic review of clinical and experimental data
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-12-13)Moderate therapeutic hypothermia procedures are used in post-cardiac arrest care, while in surgical procedures, lower core temperatures are often utilized to provide cerebral protection. Involuntary reduction of core body temperature takes place in accidental hypothermia and ventricular arrhythmias are recognized as a principal cause for a high mortality rate in these patients. We assessed both ... -
Shrinkage estimation of rate statistics
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-10-08)This paper presents a simple shrinkage estimator of rates based on Bayesian methods. Our focus is on crime rates as a motivating example. The estimator shrinks each town’s observed crime rate toward the country-wide average crime rate according to town size. By realistic simulations we confirm that the proposed estimator outperforms the maximum likelihood estimator in terms of global risk. We also ... -
An improved spatial and temporal reflectance unmixing model to synthesize time series of landsat-like images
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-08-31)The trade-off between spatial and temporal resolution limits the acquisition of dense time series of Landsat images, and limits the ability to properly monitor land surface dynamics in time. Spatiotemporal image fusion methods provide a cost-efficient alternative to generate dense time series of Landsat-like images for applications that require both high spatial and temporal resolution images. The ... -
Potential of the Gap
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2018-05-28)Potential of the Gap has been about method and place. In site-specific, contextual or relational art, the relationships between and relationships to are critical to the critical artistic licence. That is, relations between or to man, object, situation and context. I have engaged with the relationship between place, language and identity in relation to systems and logic. Convention and function. It ... -
Quantitative phase microscopy of red blood cells during planar trapping and propulsion
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-08-22)Red blood cells (RBCs) have the ability to undergo morphological deformations during microcirculation, such as changes in surface area, volume and sphericity. Optical waveguide trapping is suitable for trapping, propelling and deforming large cell populations along the length of the waveguide. Bright field microscopy employed with waveguide trapping does not provide quantitative information about ... -
General practitioners' participation in cancer treatment in Norway
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-05-23)<p><i>Introduction</i>: General practitioners (GPs) participate in a patient’s cancer care to different extents at different times, from prevention and diagnosis to treatment and end-of-life care. Traditionally, the GP has had a minor role in cancer treatment. However, oncological and surgical services frequently delegate limited cancer treatment tasks to GPs, especially in rural areas far from ... -
Feeding ecology of piscivorous brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) in a subarctic watercourse
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2004-02)Feeding ecology of piscivorous brown trout was studied in the Pasvik watercourse, Norway and Russia. The watercourse is heavily regulated for hydroelectric purposes, and 5000 brown trout > 25 cm are stocked annually to compensate the negative impacts of the impoundments. Stocked and wild trout had almost identical diets consisting mainly of vendace Coregonus albula and partly of whitefish Coregonus ... -
Ecological stoichiometry and nutrient partitioning in two insect herbivores responsible for large-scale forest disturbance in the Fennoscandian subarctic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-10-04)<p>1. Outbreaks of herbivorous insects can have large impacts on regional soil carbon (C) storage and nutrient cycling. In northernmost Europe, population outbreaks of several geometrid moth species regularly cause large‐scale defoliation in subarctic birch forests. An improved understanding is required of how leaf C and nutrients are processed after ingestion by herbivores and what this means for ... -
From wholes to fragments to wholes—what gets lost in translation?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2018-05-31)The highly demanding and, in a certain sense, unique, working conditions of general practitioners (GPs) are characterized by two phenomena: First, they involve an increasing familiarity with individual patients over time, which promotes a deepening of insight. Second, they enable the GP to encounter all kinds of health problems, which in turn facilitates pattern recognition, at both individual and ... -
Identification and follow-up of pregnant women with platelet-type human platelet antigen (HPA)-1bb alloimmunized with fetal HPA-1a
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-11-15)<p><i>Introduction</i>: Pregnant women negative for human platelet antigen 1a (HPA-1a) are at risk of alloimmunization with fetal HPA-1a antigen inherited from the father, and their offspring may develop fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (FNAIT). The aim of this study was to analyze the frequency of HPA-1a alloimmunization in pregnant Polish women, the feasibility of using maternal ... -
Human-Robot Collaboration: Task Sharing Through Virtual Reality
(Peer reviewed; Book; Chapter, 2018-12-31)Collaborative Robots provide many possibilities, when it comes to Human-Robot Collaboration. Until now, these approaches are usually custom made, sensor-integrated solutions, where the robot's safety controller ensures the safety of the human worker. These solutions are according to today's rules and standards. We propose to extend these solutions with including Virtual Realty as a sensor and to ... -
Association of phenotypic characteristics and UV radiation exposure with risk of melanoma on different body sites
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-09-10)<p><i>Importance</i>: Two pathways have been hypothesized for the development of cutaneous melanoma: one typically affects the head and neck, a site with chronic sun damage, and the other affects the trunk, which is less exposed to the sun. However, the possible cause of limb melanomas is less studied under this hypothesis.</p> <p><i>Objective</i>: To investigate the association between phenotypic ... -
Framework for Modeling and Simulation of Household Appliances
(Peer reviewed; Book; Chapter, 2018-12-31)This paper describes a framework for simulating household appliances in Simulink. Typical Norwegian household equipment have been analyzed based on their characteristic behavior, to establish the requirement for synthesizing and recreating their current waveform, harmonic currents and phase shift. Both detailed simulation of the current waveform and RMS currents for simulation over longer time periods ... -
Performance principles for trusted computing with intel SGX
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-07-14)Cloud providers offering Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) are increasingly being trusted by customers to store sensitive data. Companies often monetize such personal data through curation and analysis, providing customers with personalized application experiences and targeted advertisements. Personal data is often accompanied by strict privacy and security policies, requiring data processing to be ... -
Pre-test characteristics of unstable angina patients with obstructive coronary artery disease confirmed by coronary angiography
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-11-01)<p><i>Objective</i>: Patients referred for acute coronary angiography (CAG) with unstable angina (UA) have low mortality and low rate of obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD). Better pre-test selection criteria are warranted. We aimed to assess the current guidelines against other clinical variables as predictors of obstructive CAD in patients with UA referred for acute CAG.</p> <p><i>Methods</i>: ... -
Risk of Ischemic Stroke and Total Cerebrovascular Disease in Familial Hypercholesterolemia
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-11-21)<p><i>Background and Purpose</i>: Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is a common autosomal dominant disease leading to increased level of serum LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol and risk of coronary heart disease. Whether FH increases the risk of cerebrovascular disease, including ischemic stroke, is debated. Accordingly, we studied the incidence of cerebrovascular disease in a cohort of ... -
Haul-out behaviour of Arctic ringed seals (Pusa hispida): inter-annual patterns and impacts of current environmental change
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-01-27)Hauling out onto a solid substrate is an integral part of most pinnipeds’ activity budgets. Ringed seals (<i>Pusa hispida</i>) are an Arctic species that hauls out on sea ice routinely throughout the year. In 2006, a sudden change in the sea-ice regime occurred in Svalbard (Norway). Amongst other changes, the amount of land-fast ice declined sharply. This study examined the intra- and inter-annual ... -
SuperDARN radar-derived HF radio attenuation during the September 2017 solar proton events
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-08-10)Two solar proton events in September 2017 had a significant impact on the operation of the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN), a global network of high‐frequency (HF) radars designed for observing F region ionospheric plasma convection. Strong polar cap absorption caused near‐total loss of radar backscatter, which prevented the primary SuperDARN data products from being determined for a ... -

(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-05-29)<p><i>Aim</i>: There is a lack of studies on the prevalence of frailty, and the association between frailty and mortality in a Norwegian general population. Findings regarding sex differences in the association between frailty and mortality have been inconsistent. The aim of the present study was to investigate the association between the frailty phenotype and all‐cause mortality in men and women ... -
Small data: practical modeling issues in human-model -omic data
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2019-02-08)Human-model data are very valuable and important in biomedical research. Ethical and economical constraints limit the access to such data, and consequently these datasets rarely comprise more than a few hundred observations. As measurements are comparatively cheap, the tendency is to measure as many things as possible for the few, valuable participants in a study. With -omics technologies it is cheap ...
