The Holographic Principle: Typological analysis using lower dimensions
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018)A moderately complex factorial typology may consist of tens or hundreds of languages which can opaquely encode linguistically salient categories and generalizations. We propose in this paper that these complex typologies can be decomposed and understood using what we call the holographic principle: a large typology can be projected onto simplified versions of itself which can be completely ... -

In a survey of 1,080 residents of Arkhangelsk 40–75 years of age, 65% were seropositive for IgG. Fifteen percent of participants had been vaccinated; of those, 97% were seropositive. -
Langt hjemmefra
Homogenization of a singular random one-dimensional PDE with time-varying coefficients
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012-05-04)In this paper we study the homogenization of a nonautonomous parabolic equation with a large random rapidly oscillating potential in the case of one-dimensional spatial variable. We show that if the potential is a statistically homogeneous rapidly oscillating function of both temporal and spatial variables, then, under proper mixing assumptions, the limit equation is deterministic, and convergence ... -

Forskning i BHT

Chemosynthetic and photosynthetic trophic support from cold seeps in Arctic benthic communities
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-08-17)Benthic communities below the photic zone are largely reliant on the export of surface-water primary production and the flux of partially degraded organic matter to the seabed, i.e. pelagic−benthic coupling. Over the past decades, however, the role of chemosynthetically produced carbon in food webs has been recognized in various habitats. Cold seeps are now known to be widespread across circumpolar ... -
Synthesizing a Talking Child Avatar to Train Interviewers Working with Maltreated Children
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-06-01)When responding to allegations of child sexual, physical, and psychological abuse, Child Protection Service (CPS) workers and police personnel need to elicit detailed and accurate accounts of the abuse to assist in decision-making and prosecution. Current research emphasizes the importance of the interviewer’s ability to follow empirically based guidelines. In doing so, it is essential to implement ... -
Response of benthic foraminifera to environmental successions of cold seeps from Vestnesa Ridge, Svalbard: Implications for interpretations of paleo-seepage environments
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-15)This paper presents the results of a study on the response of living benthic foraminifera to progressing environmental successions in a cold-seep ecosystem. Sediment samples were collected from Vestnesa Ridge (79°N, Fram Strait) at ~1200 m water depth. The distribution of live (Rose Bengal-stained) foraminifera were analyzed in the upper sediment layers in relation to pore water biogeochemical data ... -
The perspectives of nurse-midwives and doctors on clinical challenges of prolonged labor: A qualitative study from Tanzania
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-19)INTRODUCTION Globally, evidence suggests that one-third of nulliparous women experience delay in the first stage of labor with an increased risk of poor maternal and neonatal outcomes. With this study, we explore how clinical challenges related to prolonged labor are perceived by nurse-midwives and doctors in Tanzania.

METHODS A qualitative study with group interviews of either nurse-midwives ... -
DrugVirus.info 2.0: an integrative data portal for broad-spectrum antivirals (BSA) and BSA-containing drug combinations (BCCs)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-05-24)Viruses can cross species barriers and cause unpredictable outbreaks in man with substantial economic and public health burdens. Broad-spectrum antivirals, (BSAs, compounds inhibiting several human viruses), and BSA-containing drug combinations (BCCs) are deemed as immediate therapeutic options that fill the void between virus identification and vaccine development. Here, we present DrugVirus.info ... -
Nucleic acid peptide nanogels for the treatment of bacterial keratitis
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-08-14)Cage-shaped nucleic acid nanocarriers are promising molecular scaffolds for the organization of polypeptides. However, there is an unmet need for facile loading strategies that truly emulate nature's host–guest systems to drive encapsulation of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) without loss of biological activity. Herein, we develop DNA nanogels with rapid in situ loading of L12 peptide during the thermal ... -
Comparability of plasma iohexol clearance across population-based cohorts
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-12-23)Rationale & Objective: Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) estimation based on creatinine or cystatin C level is currently the standard method for assessing GFR in epidemiologic research and clinical trials despite several important and well-known limitations. Plasma iohexol clearance has been proposed as an inexpensive method for measuring GFR that could replace estimated GFR in many research ... -
Risk factors associated with brain aging in the 7th Tromsø study
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2022-08-19)Introduction: Aging is a natural biological process characterized by a deterioration of functions on multiple levels: molecular, cellular, organ-specific, and systemic. There is considerable variation between individuals in aging based on biological and functional markers. This variation forms the basis for the idea of "biological age," which measures a more representative age than chronological ... -
