• More Than Expected From Old Sponge Samples: A Natural Sampler DNA Metabarcoding Assessment of Marine Fish Diversity in Nha Trang Bay (Vietnam)

Turon, Marta; Angulo-Preckler, Carlos; Antich, Adrià; Præbel, Kim; Wangensteen, Owen S. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-09)
Sponges have recently been proposed as ideal candidates to act as natural samplers for environmental DNA due to their efficiency in filtering water. However, validation of the usefulness of DNA recovered from sponges to reveal vertebrate biodiversity patterns in Marine Protected Areas is still needed. Additionally, nothing is known about how different sponge species and morphologies influence the ...
• Web-based exercise versus supervised exercise for decreasing visceral adipose tissue in older adults with central obesity: A randomized controlled trial

Ballin, Marcel; Hult, Andreas; Björk, Sabine; Lundberg, Emmy; Nordström, Peter; Nordström, Anna Hava (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-05-12)
Background - Visceral adipose tissue (VAT) is a strong risk factor for cardiovascular disease and increases with age. While supervised exercise (SE) may be an effective approach, web-based exercise (WE) have other advantages such as being more readily accessible. Therefore, we evaluated the effects of WE on VAT, body composition and cardiometabolic risk markers in centrally obese older adults ...

Autophagy is the degradation of cytoplasmic material through the lysosomal pathway. One of the most studied autophagy-related proteins is LC3. Despite growing evidence that LC3 is enriched in the nucleus, its nuclear role is poorly understood. Here, we show that Drosophila Atg8a protein, homologous to mammalian LC3, interacts with the transcription factor Sequoia in a LIR motif-dependent ...

Progressive fibrosing interstitial lung diseases (PF-ILD) have poor prognosis and survival, and their pathogenesis is not well understood[1]. Mechanistically, lung fibrosis is thought to result from distorted wound-healing following tissue insults and inflammation, leading to scar formation by excess deposition of extracellular matrix proteins and destruction of lung architecture[2]. The fibrotic ...

Our results confirm the already known polarisation of the red line, and show for the first time that the three other lines observed here (namely 557.7 nm, 391.4 nm and 427.8 nm) are polarised as well up to a few percent. We show that ...
