Lessons learned from accident and near-accident experiences in traffic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-08-17)The focus of this article is risky behavior in traffic. What do people learn from accidents and near-accidents? Experience with accidents may demand increased caution. However, near-accidents are inherently ambiguous: On the one hand, they signal that margins were good enough, inspiring increased risk-taking; on the other hand, they signal danger that could induce increased caution. To explore these ... -

Filtered beauty in Oslo and Tokyo: A spatial frequency analysis of facial attractiveness
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-01-14)Images of European female and male faces were digitally processed to generate spatial frequency (SF) filtered images containing only a narrow band of visual information within the Fourier spectrum. The original unfiltered images and four SF filtered images (low, medium-low, medium-high and high) were then paired in trials that kept constant SF band and face gender and participants made a forced-choice ... -
Absorptive capacity and energy efficiency in manufacturing firms – An empirical analysis in Norway
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-02)Increased energy efficiency (EE) in manufacturing firms is important for confronting climate challenges. However, the information barrier is considered a major restriction on EE innovation. Building on the theory of absorptive capacity and the current EE literature, we argue that this barrier relates to firms' ability to assimilate and exploit information. Thus, this study's objective is to analyse ... -
Responses to positive and aversive stimuli in estrous female rats housed in a seminatural environment: Effects of yohimbine and chlordiazepoxide
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-02-05)The behavioral effects of putative anxiolytic and anxiogenic drugs are usually evaluated in highly standardized tests. Here, we determined the effects of such drugs in rats housed in mixed sex groups in a seminatural environment. Sexually receptive female Wistar rats were treated with either the anxiolytic drug chlordiazepoxide (2 mg/kg), the anxiogenic drug yohimbine (1 mg/kg), or saline (1 ml/kg). ... -
Matrix metalloproteinase-9 mediated shedding of syndecan-4 in glomerular endothelial cells
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-01-31)
Background - Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of end‐stage renal failure in the western world and Asia. The mechanisms are not fully elucidated, but disruption of glomerular endothelial glycocalyx and shedding of its components including syndecans has been implicated.
Aims - We hypothesize that reduced glomerular filtration in diabetes is caused by disruption of ... -

Mucosal Metabolomic Profiling and Pathway Analysis Reveal the Metabolic Signature of Ulcerative Colitis
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-11-27)The onset of ulcerative colitis (UC) is characterized by a dysregulated mucosal immune response triggered by several genetic and environmental factors in the context of host–microbe interaction. This complexity makes UC ideal for metabolomic studies to unravel the disease pathobiology and to improve the patient stratification strategies. This study aims to explore the mucosal metabolomic profile in ... -
MiRNAs‐181a/b therapy in lung cancer: reality or myth?
