Paper 1 presents a new chronostratigraphic framework, covering the last ∼2.7 Ma, for the Svalbard-Barents Sea margin, using 2D seismic data to extend available ... -
Combinatorics and semi-algebraic geometry of orbit spaces: Hyperbolic and stable polynomials, the degree principle and few inequalities defining orbit spaces
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2024-09-20)
Algebraic geometry studies the set of common zeros of a system of polynomials in one or several variables - most commonly over algebraically closed fields. Real algebraic geometry studies sets defined by a finite system of polynomial inequalities.
A starting point for modern real algebraic geometry can be traced back to Hilbert: In 1888, Hilbert showed the existence of nonnegative polynomials ... -
The Agent-Based Model of Pluralistic Ignorance. Sincerity, Conformity and Truth.
(Mastergradsoppgave; Master thesis, 2024-05-15)This thesis investigates the phenomenon of pluralistic ignorance, clears up some conceptual confusion regarding its definition, and explores ethical problems connected to it. A primary contribution lies in the development of an agent-based computer simulation of pluralistic ignorance. Observations of this simulation lead to tentative recommendations about how to deal with pluralistic ignorance in ... -
Bacteriophages of the arctic bacterium Staphylococcus borealis - isolation, host range and anti-biofilm effect The evaluation of efficacy, host range and anti-biofilm capacities of bacteriophages infectious to nosocomial staphylococcal strains
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2024-05-13)As antibiotic resistance is on the rise in parallel with the stagnation of antibiotic discovery, the world urges for novel antibacterial strategies. Phage therapy has a century-long history of application in former Soviet countries in eastern Europe and has gained attention as a potential alternative to conventional antibiotics, with high specificity and low cytotoxicity. This study aimed at isolating ... -
Slicing orbit spaces: Geometry and combinatorics of hyperbolic and even-hyperbolic slices
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2024-09-18)Motivated by a connection to Timofte’s degree and halfdegree principle we study canonical hyperbolic slices, that is, sets of univariate hyperbolic polynomials that share the same first few coefficients. We study the geometric and combinatorial properties of a natural stratification of these slices and use these properties to improve upon the degree principle. Amongst the geometric properties we ... -

(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-28)he regulator of telomere elongation helicase 1 (RTEL1) plays roles in telomere DNA maintenance, DNA repair, and genome stability by dismantling D-loops and unwinding G-quadruplex structures. RTEL1 comprises a helicase domain, two tandem harmonin homology domains 1&2 (HHD1 and HHD2), and a Zn2+-binding RING domain. In vitro D-loop disassembly by RTEL1 is enhanced in the presence of replication ... -
Measuring market volatility connectedness to media sentiment
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-01-29)We examine directional connectedness patterns from news and social media to financial market volatility using textual analysis and high-frequency data. We find that media sentiment induces market volatility, but the magnitude of that connectedness is time-varying. In addition, news and social media sentiment pertinent to one market transmits volatility to other markets. Finally, we find that ... -
Rethinking gold(II) porphyrins: an inherent wave distortion
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-01-23)Relativistic DFT (OLYP-D3/ZORA-STO-TZ2P) calculations predict low adiabatic ionization potentials for gold(II) porphyrins, from 4.60 eV for Au[TPP] (TPP = tetraphenylporphyrin) to 5.34 eV for Au[TPFPP] [TPFPP = tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin]. These values are over 1 eV lower than those calculated for analogous silver(II) porphyrins, reflecting much greater relativistic destabilization of ... -
