dc.description.abstract | In today’s distribution system, the dominating type of current used is AC. In newer time, improvements have been done within the field of DC. The developments that are achieved, are in terms of converter efficiency and conversion capabilities. Along with development of DC equipment, the use and development of renewable energy sources have increased. This has brought up the topic of using DC in the distribution system. A DC distribution system can be a future solution, for higher efficiency and reliability. In this thesis, a literature study of research done on DC distribution system, to assess the current state and feasibility of the DC distribution system. DC is already in use in several applications, like data centers, telecommunication systems and electrical vehicles. There are different aspects of the DC distribution system that need to be considered. Several grid solutions are considered, for both low voltage distribution system and medium voltage distribution system. Repurposing of cables is also reviewed, and how the currently laid out cables used in AC can be used in a DC system. Research that is done on efficiency of a DC distribution system has also been reviewed, to get and overview of the total efficiency of the distribution system. The advantages and disadvantages of the DC distribution system are shown and compared to the AC counterpart. | en_US |
