The proposed method demonstrates the conversion between a NURBS model and a generalized expo-rational B-spline (GERBS) surface with the aim of utilizing special combined expo-rational basis functions in finite element analysis.

To achieve the transformation from a NURBS patch to a GERBS surface element, a linear extraction operator is employed. This operator maps the local combined expo-rational basis functions to the B-spline basis and vice versa.

The novelty of this paper lies in the conversion of the exact geometry modeled in CAD software to the GERBS surface.

As an example of the application of the proposed method, we utilize the finite element analysis approach to solve a linear elasticity problem on a 2D computational domain constructed by converting the NURBS surface to the GERBS surface.en_US
