Molecular Interactions Stabilizing the Promatrix Metalloprotease-9·Serglycin Heteromer
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-06-12)Previous studies have shown that THP-1 cells produced an SDS-stable and reduction-sensitive complex between proMMP-9 and a chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan (CSPG) core protein. The complex could be reconstituted in vitro using purified serglycin (SG) and proMMP-9 and contained no inter-disulfide bridges. It was suggested that the complex involved both the FnII module and HPX domain of proMMP-9. The ... -
Plan, recruit, retain: a framework for local healthcare organizations to achieve a stable remote rural workforce
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-09-03)Background - Recruiting and retaining a skilled health workforce is a common challenge for remote and rural communities worldwide, negatively impacting access to services, and in turn peoples’ health. The research literature highlights different factors facilitating or hindering recruitment and retention of healthcare workers to remote and rural areas; however, there are few practical tools ... -
Serum PTH is not a good marker for defining a threshold for vitamin D deficiency
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-04-01)Objective: In addition to its skeletal effects, vitamin D may also be important for health in general. It is uncertain what level of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), marker of vitamin D status, is sufficient for these effects. With decreasing serum 25(OH)D levels there is an increase in serum PTH. The point at which this occurs has been considered as a threshold for vitamin D sufficiency. ... -
Adam Smith om markedet og om selvet
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-08-19)Artikkelen fokuserer på hvilken rolle egeninteresse spiller i The Wealth of Nations av Adam Smith. -
Randomised comparison of provisional side branch stenting versus a two-stent strategy for treatment of true coronary bifurcation lesions involving a large side branch: the Nordic-Baltic Bifurcation Study IV
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-01-19)Background - It is still uncertain whether coronary bifurcations with lesions involving a large side branch (SB) should be treated by stenting the main vessel and provisional stenting of the SB (simple) or by routine two-stent techniques (complex). We aimed to compare clinical outcome after treatment of lesions in large bifurcations by simple or complex stent implantation.

Methods ... -

Clinical characterization of Helicobacter pylori infected patients 15 years after unsuccessful eradication
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2020-09-23)Background and aims - Patients that have failed therapy for Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection are incompletely characterized. The aim of this study was to characterize a H. pylori treatment resistant cohort compared to the cohorts of newly diagnosed, earlier eradicated and non-infected.

Material and methods - Patients were selected from routine referrals to the Endoscopy ... -
Afro-alpine flagships revisited: Parallel adaptation, intermountain admixture and shallow genetic structuring in the giant senecios (Dendrosenecio)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-03-18)Distantly related lineages of the enigmatic giant rosette plants of tropical alpine environments provide classical examples of convergent adaptation. For the giant senecios (Dendrosenecio), the endemic landmarks of the East African sky islands, it has also been suggested that parallel adaptation has been important for within-lineage differentiation. To test this hypothesis and to address potential ... -
The effects of language and emotionality of stimuli on vocabulary learning
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-10-07)Learning new content and vocabulary in a foreign language can be particularly difficult. Yet, there are educational programs that require people to study in a language they are not native speakers of. For this reason, it is important to understand how these learning processes work and possibly differ from native language learning, as well as to develop strategies to ease this process. The current ... -
Variations in the Circle of Willis in a large population sample using 3D TOF angiography: The Tromsø Study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-11-03)The main arteries that supply blood to the brain originate from the Circle of Willis (CoW). The CoW exhibits considerable anatomical variations which may have clinical importance, but the variability is insufficiently characterised in the general population. We assessed the anatomical variability of CoW variants in a community-dwelling sample (N = 1,864, 874 men, mean age = 65.4, range 40–87 years), ... -
Diversified regulation of circadian clock gene expression following whole genome duplication
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-10-08)Across taxa, circadian control of physiology and behavior arises from cell-autonomous oscillations in gene expression, governed by a networks of so-called ‘clock genes’, collectively forming transcription-translation feedback loops. In modern vertebrates, these networks contain multiple copies of clock gene family members, which arose through whole genome duplication (WGD) events during evolutionary ... -
Drug-target binding quantitatively predicts optimal antibiotic dose levels in quinolones
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-08-14)Antibiotic resistance is rising and we urgently need to gain a better quantitative understanding of how antibiotics act, which in turn would also speed up the development of new antibiotics. Here, we describe a computational model (COMBAT-COmputational Model of Bacterial Antibiotic Target-binding) that can quantitatively predict antibiotic dose-response relationships. Our goal is dual: We address a ... -
Why metacognition Is not always helpful
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-02)In many situations, actively engaging in metacognition may improve cognitive achievement and subjective well-being. However, the potential disadvantages of metacognitive engagement are only rarely communicated in metacognition research. In this paper, I outline three ways in which metacognition may reduce cognitive achievement and psychological well-being. First, metacognition may sometimes actively ... -
Hvordan få ned prestasjonspresset i skolen. Fokus på autonomi og vurdering for læring
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2020-11-01)Elevundersøkelser viser at elever i stor grad opplever prestasjonspress i skolen. -

Music in the Dark: Soundscapes in Christiane Ritter's A Woman in the Polar Night
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-10)In A Woman in the Polar Night (Eine Frau erlebt die Polarnacht, 1938), Christiane Ritter, a well-to-do Austrian housewife, describes her experience as the first central European woman to overwinter on Svalbard (1934–35). Ritter’s prose is extraordinary in its lyrical simplicity, and in German editions the text is interspersed with her paintings of the scenes that at first were so alien and changing, ... -
Conceptualizing the North
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-01)In this article that opens and introduces the special issue Conceptualizing the North, we present our theoretical rationale behind the conceptualization(s) of the north presented both in our article and in the issue as a whole, as well as our approach to the co-creative peer review. Through new material feminist understanding of the north, we acknowledge our kin both past and present, and unfold a ...
