Artikkelen ... -

Positive obligations to protect life and health according to the ECHR The limits of the positive obligations and the balancing of rights, focusing on the rights of children during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Motivation for slushflow classification
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024)Slushflows are a type of rapid mass movement where water saturated snow flows downhill. Slushflows come in many different sizes, have different triggering mechanisms, and contain debris ranging from simply snow and ice to soil, rock and vegetation. Slushflows are often misclassified as debris flows, wet snow avalanches or river/stream ice jam processes. <p> <p>Norway reports 5 to 20 larger ... -
Temporal displacement: colonial architecture and its contestation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-07-25)Between 1950 and 1979 the Danish state worked to modernise Kalaallit Nunaat (a.k.a. Greenland) and concentrate the Indigenous Inuit population in a few select cities. Technologies of urban planning and development were merged with those of the colonial state. New forms of housing materialised whose qualities aligned with assimilation schemes, but were also resisted, their uses repurposed. These ... -
Limitations of RAMMS:Debrisflow as a slushflow simulation tool
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024)Slushflows are defined as water-saturated snow (slush), that moves rapidly downslope as a gravitational mass flow. The high-water content of the flow results in a high density, posing a significant danger to construction, infrastructure and people in its path. To reduce this danger, it is important to predict where slushflows may initiate and travel in the terrain. Numerical modelling of the runout ... -
University snow science courses - an analysis of student learning outcomes
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024)The Department of Geosciences at UiT The Arctic University of Norway offers two snow and avalanche courses to its students. The bachelor course ‘Introduction to Snow and Avalanche Science’ (GEO2015) focuses on teaching the physical characteristics of the seasonal snowpack and learning appropriate techniques for snowpack observation. Its master-level counterpart, the course ‘Snow and Avalanche Science ... -

(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024)The GEOMME international partnership for ‘Climate-driven GEOhazards Mitigation, Management, and Education’ fosters collaboration in research and education on climate-driven geohazards across South Korea, Japan, and Norway. The initiative focuses on enhancing societal resilience against gravitational mass flows through excellence in education and research, aiming to improve the adaptive capacities ... -
Lie Admissible Triple Algebras: The Connection Algebra of Symmetric Spaces
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-07-25)Associated to a symmetric space there is a canonical connection with zero torsion and parallel curvature. This connection acts as a binary operator on the vector space of smooth sections of the tangent bundle, and it is linear with respect to the real numbers. Thus the smooth section of the tangent bundle together with the connection form an algebra we call the connection algebra. The constraints ... -
Impact of a cognitive training on reading of 6-year-old children
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-08-31)Numerous studies explore the effect of cognitive stimulation programmes on reading skills in children and adolescents, with mixed results. Although several studies support that the relationships established between executive functions and reading skills are more robust at early ages, when the process of formal reading acquisition is being consolidated, there are few studies that evaluate the impact ... -

Metal additive manufacturing adoption in SMEs: Technical attributes, challenges, and opportunities
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-08-26)Recent advancements in Metal Additive Manufacturing (MAM) are transforming manufacturing. Most research and market adoption of MAM have focused on Powder Bed Fusion (PBF), with less attention given to Directed Energy Deposition (DED), Binder Jetting (BJ), and Metal Material Extrusion (MEX), which are only now reaching industrial readiness. This increased availability of MAM processes provides SMEs ... -

MEX, known for its cost-effectiveness and ease of integration, targets a distinct market segment compared to established high-end MAM processes. However, despite technological improvements, its overall integration into the industry as ... -
Material hardness descriptor derived by symbolic regression
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-08-06)Hardness is a materials’ property with implications in several industrial fields, including oil and gas, manufacturing, and others. However, the relationship between this macroscale property and atomic (i.e., microscale) properties is unknown and in the last decade several models have unsuccessfully tried to correlate them in a wide range of chemical space. The understanding of such relationship is ... -
On nonnegative invariant quartics in type A
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-10-09)The equivariant nonnegativity versus sums of squares question has been solved for any infinite series of essential reflection groups but type <i>A</i>. As a first step to a classification, we analyse <i>An</i> -invariant quartics. We prove that the cones of invariant sums of squares and nonnegative forms are equal if and only if the number of variables is at most 3 or odd.
