Isaac Olsen - lærer og forkynner
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017)Isaac Olsen was a Norwegian person who went to Finnmark at the beginning of the 1700s and worked there as teacher and preacher among the Sami population until 1716. He wrote a copybook which is preserved today in the Museum of Cultural History, Norway. Parts of this copybook have been published, but the parts on which this article is based, have not been published previously. Mostly written in ... -
Coincident mass occurrence of gelatinous zooplankton in Northern Norway
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-05-23)In autumn 2015, several sources reported observations of large amounts of gelatinous material in a large north Norwegian fjord system, either caught when trawling for other organisms or fouling fishing gear. The responsible organism was identified as a physonect siphonophore, Nanomia cara, while a ctenophore, Beroe cucumis, and a hydromedusa, Modeeria rotunda, were also registered in high abundances ... -
Penalised Complexity Priors for Stationary Autoregressive Processes
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-05-23)The autoregressive (AR) process of order p(AR(p)) is a central model in time series analysis. A Bayesian approach requires the user to define a prior distribution for the coefficients of the AR(p) model. Although it is easy to write down some prior, it is not at all obvious how to understand and interpret the prior distribution, to ensure that it behaves according to the users' prior knowledge. In ... -
Time trends in incidence rates of venous thromboembolism in a large cohort recruited from the general population
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-03-17)Changes in the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) during the last two decades have not been extensively studied. Therefore, we studied time trends in the incidence rates (IRs) of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in a cohort of 26,855 subjects, aged 25–97 years, enrolled in the Tromsø study in 1994/1995. The subject were followed-up throughout 2012, and all symptomatic, ... -
Developmental trend towards exact imitation in the second year of life: Evidence from a longitudinal study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-06-11)Findings from previous cross-sectional studies showed that while toddlers around their first birthday imitate selectively, that is, they systematically omit some kinds of target action steps or they copy only the goal, but not the means of the modeled actions, older toddlers imitate more exactly. The aim of the present article is to provide longitudinal evidence for this developmental trend and to ... -
Limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I: No correlation between clinical severity, histopathology and glycosylated α-dystroglycan levels in patients homozygous for common FKRP mutation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-07)<p>Limb girdle muscular dystrophy type 2I (LGMD2I) is a progressive disorder caused by mutations in the FuKutin-Related Protein gene (FKRP). LGMD2I displays clinical heterogeneity with onset of severe symptoms in early childhood to mild calf and thigh hypertrophy in the second or third decade. Patients homozygous for the common FKRP mutation c.826C>A (p.Leu276Ile) show phenotypes within the milder ... -
Mid/Late Devonian-Carboniferous extensional faulting in Finnmark and the SW Barents Sea
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2018-05-24)In northern Norway, late/post-Caledonian extension initiated along inverted, brittle-ductile thrusts, e.g. Sørøya-Ingøya shear zone, which truncated existing, margin-oblique, late Neoproterozoic, Timanian faults and margin-parallel, latest Mesoproterozoic-mid Neoproterozoic faults related to the opening of the Asgard Sea and Iapetus Ocean. Inverted thrusts were active through the Devonian and early ... -
Geochemical characterisation of northern Norwegian fjord surface sediments: A baseline for further paleo-environmental investigations
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-08-26)Norwegian fjord sediments are promising archives for very high resolution records of past environmental changes. Recent investigations of the modern depositional environment within fjords revealed that the accurate quantification of the inputs, sources, and sedimentary preservation of organic and inorganic material is crucial to decipher long term past climate signals in the sedimentary record ... -
Los adjetivos deverbales en español: un estudio nanosintáctico
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2018-06-11)This thesis looks in detail at Spanish deverbal adjectives, and how these are syntactically built. In-depth analyses of three Spanish suffixes (-ón, -dizo and -dero) that form these kinds of derivations are carried out. We identify three non-episodic readings of these adjectives –habituality, dispositionality and modality– and focus on how these three readings are obtained. I claim that the differences ... -
Visceral fat is strongly associated with post-transplant diabetes mellitus and glucose metabolism 1 year after kidney transplantation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-11-16)Body composition after kidney transplantation is linked to glucose metabolism, and impaired glucose metabolism is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events and death. One year after transplantation we examined 150 patients for new-onset diabetes performing OGTTs and body composition measurements including visceral adipose tissue (VAT) content from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry ... -
Jet-determination of symmetries of parabolic geometries
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-04-24)We establish 2-jet determinacy for the symmetry algebra of the underlying structure of any (complex or real) parabolic geometry. At non-flat points, we prove that the symmetry algebra is in fact 1-jet determined. Moreover, we prove 1-jet determinacy at any point for a variety of non-flat parabolic geometries—in particular torsion-free, parabolic contact, and several other classes. -
Fractional Gaussian noise: Prior specification and model comparison
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-07-07)Fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) is a stationary stochastic process used to model anti-persistent or persistent dependency structures in observed time series. Properties of the autocovariance function of fGn are characterised by the Hurst exponent (<i>H)</i>, which in Bayesian contexts typically has been assigned a uniform prior on the unit interval. This paper argues why a uniform prior is ... -
Local In Time Statistics for detecting weak gene expression signals in blood – illustrated for prediction of metastases in breast cancer in the NOWAC Post-genome Cohort
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-07-10)Background: Functional genomics in a processual analysis cover the time-dependent changes in transcriptomics and epigenetics before diagnosis of a disease, reflecting the changes in both life style and disease processes. The aim of this paper is to explore the dynamic, time-dependent mechanisms of the metastatic processes, using blood transcriptomics and including time in a continuous manner. For ... -
Feeding and fasting in Arctic charr (Salvelinus alpinus (Linnaeus, 1758)): Central regulation of food intake in a highly seasonal fish species
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2018-05-22)Central control mechanisms of food intake vary between different fish species. Few studies have investigated the role of central appetite regulators in fish species that show natural seasonal variations in food intake. Yet, seasonal fishes are particularly interesting because their potential seasonally sliding set-points in appetite and energy homeostasis may reveal new information about the ... -
