Sammendrag
Background: In Norway, there are estimated to be 250,000 people with type 2 diabetes. According to Folkehelseinstituttet, there are around 14,000 to 18,000 new diagnoses of type 2 diabetes every year in Norway. Type 2 diabetes is considered to be a lifestyle disease, and there are steps someone with type 2 diabetes can take to manage their condition, like changing their diet and exercise. Mobile applications can be used to help with this. Aim: This thesis explores the preferences of people with type 2 diabetes in Norway for group motivation design in applications. Methodology: A literature review was done based on PRISM principles, alongside an analysis of existing group motivation applications. Designs were created based on the design for a potential survey, and a focus group discussion was conducted to get feedback on the design. Results: The app search revealed few diabetes apps, but it also revealed other relevant applications within general health, habit-forming, and exercise categories. Analysis of the literature and applications revealed that goal-setting and communication are essential for group motivation. Limitations: Survey data was not obtained due to a lack of time. Despite this limitation, this thesis still contributes knowledge on group motivation apps for people with type 2 diabetes.
