• Glutamatergic modulation of auditory cortex connectivity with attentional brain networks in unpredictable perceptual environment

Kompus, Kristiina; Volehaugen, Vegard; Craven, Alexander R.; Specht, Karsten (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-09-14)
In a stable environment the brain can minimize processing required for sensory input by forming a predictive model of the surrounding world and suppressing neural response to predicted stimuli. Unpredicted stimuli lead to a prediction error signal propagation through the perceptual network, and resulting adjustment to the predictive model. The inter-regional plasticity which enables the model-building ...
• GMAG: An open-source python package for ground-based magnetometers

Murphy, Kyle R.; Rae, I. Jonathan; Halford, Alexa J.; Engebretson, Mark; Russell, Christopher T.; Matzka, Jürgen; Johnsen, Magnar Gullikstad; Milling, David K.; Mann, Ian R.; Kale, Andy; Xu, Zhonghua; Connors, Martin; Angelopoulos, Vassilis; Chi, Peter; Tanskanen, Eija Irene (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-11-04)
Magnetometers are a key component of heliophysics research providing valuable insight into the dynamics of electromagnetic field regimes and their coupling throughout the solar system. On satellites, magnetometers provide detailed observations of the extension of the solar magnetic field into interplanetary space and of planetary environments. At Earth, magnetometers are deployed on the ground in ...

• Good growth in OA in Tromsø

• "Good parenting” among middle-class families: A narrative positioning analysis of Norwegian child welfare workers’ stories

Fævelen, Malin Jørgine; Sørly, Rita; Kojan, Bente Heggem (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-09-28)
This article investigates norms of parenting in the context of the Norwegian child welfare service (CWS). Research from both international and Norwegian contexts shows that current parenting ideals are built on middle-class values that are often taken for granted. However, there is limited knowledge about the interaction between the CWS and middle-class families. Through narrative positioning analysis, ...
• Governance of the Young Unemployed – A Comparative Study of the United Kingdom, Germany and Norway

Kane, Aina Aune; Köhler-Olsen, Julia (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-12-04)

In this article, we focus on how the United Kingdom, Germany and Norway govern and balance young unemployed claimants’ right to social benefits with conditions of compulsory activities, with the aim of their transition into employment. In the three countries mentioned, we have examined and compared the national legislation and regulations, as well as how case workers in job centres experience ...
• Government-industry dynamics in the development of offshore waste management in Norway: from prescriptive to risk-based regulation

Knol-Kauffman, Maaike; Solås, Ann-Magnhild; Arbo, Peter (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-08-14)
Petroleum activities are associated with high risks. In the 1980s, concerns arose about the environmental impacts of ‘normal’ petroleum activity. Regular operations go hand-in-hand with emissions to air and discharges to sea. Both have been subject to extensive regulation since the 1990s. This paper analyzes the design and implementation of the Norwegian system that regulates operational discharges ...
• GPS, RT90 og Rikets nät. Om posisjonsbestemmelse av svenske grotter

Brattli, Tore (Tidsskriftartikkel; Journal article, 2006-07-01)

Fedreheim, Gunn Elin; Goes, Sander Bernardus (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021)
• Gradually decreasing daylength after smoltification induced by “winter signal“ reduced sexual maturation in male Atlantic salmon

Skjold, Vetle; Rørvik, Kjell-Arne; Sveen, Lene; Burgerhout, Erik; Mota, Vasco C.; Weihe, Runi; Ytrestøyl, Trine; Bou, Marta; Jacobsen, Hans Jakup; Allaoui, Giovanni; Fuskevåg, Ole-Martin; Dessen, Jens-Erik (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-01-16)
Introduction: Maturation in seawater-adapted (smoltified) male Atlantic salmon is undesirable yet frequently reported in fish weighing up to 1 kg reared under intensive conditions in land-based facilities. Although the photoperiod regulates both smoltification and maturation, the optimal post-smoltification regimen for the prevention of maturation is unclear.

Methods: In this study, ...
• Grammatical development in both languages of bilingual Turkish-Dutch children with and without Developmental Language Disorder

Blom, Elma; Boerma, Tessel; Karaca, Figen; de Jong, Jan; Küntay, Aylin (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-12-15)
Introduction: To guarantee a reliable diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) in bilingual children, evaluating both languages is recommended. However, little is known about how DLD impacts the heritage language, and it is largely unknown whether bilingual children with DLD develop the heritage language at the same pace as their peers with typical development (TD).

Methods: For ...
• Grammatical Gender: Acquisition, Attrition, and Change

Lohndal, Terje; Westergaard, Marit (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-02-10)
This paper discusses grammatical gender in Norwegian by bringing together data from first language acquisition, Norwegian heritage language, and dialect change. In all these contexts, gender is often claimed to be a vulnerable category, arguably due to the relative non-transparency of gender assignment. Furthermore, the feminine gender is in the process of being lost in many Norwegian dialects, as ...

Linguistic data, in their many forms, are a valuable asset in research and education on language. From the predigital age, the earliest data to reach us are written records carved in stone, wooden sticks, or clay tablets, or penned on papyrus, parchment, and such. Early field linguists recorded samples obtained from informants and other sources in notebooks and card files. Speech was recorded on ...
