Using clustering to understand intra-city warming in heatwaves: insights into Paris, Montreal, and Zurich
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-10)We introduce a novel methodological advancement by clustering paired near-surface air temperature with the planetary boundary layer height to characterize intra-city clusters for analytics. To illustrate this approach, we analyze three heatwaves (HWs): the 2019 HW in Paris, the 2018 HW in Montreal, and the 2017 HW in Zurich. We assess cluster-based characteristics before, during, and after ... -

Employing a ... -
Liraglutide and not lifestyle intervention reduces soluble CD163 after comparable weight loss in obese participants with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-04-29)Background The GLP-1 receptor agonist liraglutide is used to treat hyperglycemia in type 2 diabetes but is also known to induce weight loss, preserve the beta cell and reduce cardiovascular risk. The mechanisms underlying these effects are however still not completely known. Herein we explore the effect of liraglutide on markers of immune cell activity in a population of obese individuals with ... -
The quest for a sustainable industry: mining, path dependency and post-carbon regime in the European Arctic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-06-10)The goal of the European Union’s Green Deal industrial plan is to achieve an ecological transition over the next three decades. This transition includes the electrification of energy and transport systems. Achieving such a transformation requires access to critical raw materials for the technologies that will enable the post-carbon transition of European societies. In this context, the European ... -
Weighted estimates of commutators of singular operators in generalized Morrey spaces beyond Muckenhoupt range and applications
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-30)For a certain class of radial weights, we prove weighted norm estimates for commutators with BMO coefficients of singular operators in local generalized Morrey spaces. As a consequence of these estimates, we obtain norm inequalities for such commutators in the generalized Stummel-Morrey spaces. We also discuss a.e. well-posedness of singular operators and their commutators on weighted generalized ... -
Social robots in research on social and cognitive development in infants and toddlers: A scoping review
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-15)There is currently no systematic review of the growing body of literature on using social robots in early developmental research. Designing appropriate methods for early childhood research is crucial for broadening our understanding of young children’s social and cognitive development. This scoping review systematically examines the existing literature on using social robots to study social and ... -
Sex Differences in Sexual Motivation in Humans and Other Mammals: The Role of Conscious and Unconscious Processes
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-03-27)In self-report questionnaires, men report higher scores than women on variables such as desire for sex, frequency of sexual thoughts, number of sex partners, etc. Based on this, men are considered to have a higher level of sexual motivation than women. However, retrospective selfreports may be unsuitable for estimations of the inherent level of sexual motivation. We review data on automatic ... -
Dialect separation and cross-dialectal influence: a study on the grammatical gender of Oromo
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-03)The extent to which the grammar of one dialect influences the grammar of another and the mechanisms that bidialectal speakers employ to distinguish a target grammar from non-target grammar have not been adequately investigated. In this study, we elucidate these issues by investigating the grammatical gender of Oromo, a Cushitic language that is spoken in Ethiopia. The results from two successive ... -
Human and Murine Toll-like Receptor-Driven Disease in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-14)The pathogenesis of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is linked to the differential roles of toll-like receptors (TLRs), particularly TLR7, TLR8, and TLR9. TLR7 overexpression or gene duplication, as seen with the Y-linked autoimmune accelerator (Yaa) locus or TLR7 agonist imiquimod, correlates with increased SLE severity, and specific TLR7 polymorphisms and gainof-function variants are associated ... -

Binary forms of suprageneric rank and the multiple root loci
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-08-11)We state the relation between the variety of binary forms of given rank and the dual of the multiple root loci. This is a new result for the suprageneric rank that appears as a continuation of the cited work by Buczyński, Han, Mella and Teitler. We describe the strata of these varieties and explore their singular loci. -
Prospects for Using Computer Accommodography to Predict Myopia Development in Young Adults

The aim of the study was to investigate the objective parameters of accommodative insufficiency in young people with and without myopia. A cross-sectional study was carried out using a random sample of 116 ... -
Gene Expression and Phenotypic Assessment of Egg Quality across Developmental Stages of Atlantic Cod throughout the Spawning Season
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-07-08)Egg quality in fishes is commonly determined by fertilisation success and cleavage patterns as a phenotypic outcome of underlying regulatory mechanisms. Although these phenotypic estimators of egg quality are useful in farming conditions, these “good quality” egg batches do not always translate to good larval growth and survival. The identification of genes involved in embryonic development may help ... -

Hypsochlorins
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-03-19)Both the Soret and Q bands of chlorin e6 complexes blueshift on going from Zn to Pd to Pt as the coordinated metal, establishing the latter two complexes as hypsochlorins. DFT/TDDFT calculations indicate that the blueshifts appear to be related to the presence of the electronegative metal ion, which lowers the orbital energies of the HOMO and HOMO-1, while leaving the LUMOs relatively unaffected. -
The effects of restrictiveness on relative clause processing in Farsi
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-17)With an eye-tracking experiment, we investigated the processing of Farsi object and subject relative clauses. Since restrictive relative clauses in Farsi are marked and distinguished clearly by the enclitic particle ی /− i/ attached to the head noun, we also compared the processing of restrictive and non-restrictive relative clauses. Seifi (2021) conducted a corpus analysis that showed that ... -
Diets, stress, and disease in the Etruscan society: Isotope analysis and infantile skeletal palaeopathology from Pontecagnano (Campania, southern Italy, 730–580 BCE)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-05-15)Susceptibility to morbidity and mortality is increased in early life, yet proactive measures, such as breastfeeding and weaning practices, can be taken through specific investments from parents and wider society. The extent to which such biosocialcultural investment was achieved within 1st millennium BCE Etruscan society, of whom little written sources are available, is unkown. This ...
