Statusbericht aus Norwegen: Implementierung von Patientenbeteiligung im norwegischen Gesundheitswesen
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-05-22)Norway has traditionally high standards regarding civil rights particularly emphasizing equal access to societal resources including health care. This background and the health care system’s centralized national organization make it perfectly suited for implementation of shared decision making (SDM). In recent years, great efforts have been made by policy- makers, regional health authorities and ... -
Complement factor 5 blockade reduces porcine myocardial infarction size and improves immediate cardiac function
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-03-03)Inhibition of complement factor 5 (C5) reduced myocardial infarction in animal studies, while no benefit was found in clinical studies. Due to lack of cross-reactivity of clinically used C5 antibodies, different inhibitors were used in animal and clinical studies. Coversin (Ornithodoros moubata complement inhibitor, OmCI) blocks C5 cleavage and binds leukotriene B4 in humans and pigs. We hypothesized ... -

The montage of the life course of Alexander Maloletov: searching for happiness in the Soviet and Post-Soviet Russia.
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2017-05-12)This work is focused on the life course of 67 years old Alexander Maloletov. In my study I question the role of happiness for the individual, connected to present self-identity and «personal memory museum». I am considering happiness as an emotional lens, through which it is possible to think evaluatively and narratively about people’s selves and lives. The main informant is an eccentric man named ... -
Samhandling krever aktiv handling

Analysis of glomerular target structures for nephritic anti-dsDNA antibodies playing central roles in lupus nephritis
(Master thesis; Mastergradsoppgave, 2008-05)Systemic lupus erythematosus is an autoimmune disease characterized by the presence of autoantibodies towards nuclear antigens. Sub-populations of anti-dsDNA antibodies have the potential to bind in the kidney and thereby induce nephritis, but there is no definite distinction that separates non-pathogenic from pathogenic antibodies. There must be parameters that determine anti-dsDNA antibody binding, ... -
Effects of exhaustive swimming and subsequent recuperation on flesh quality in unstressed Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-04-25)Wild Atlantic cod of commercial size (1.9 ± 0.5 kg) were swum to exhaustion in a large swim tunnel in an attempt to mimic the initial stage of trawling, when fish swim at the trawl mouth until they fatigue or lose interest and subsequently drop into the trawl. The objective of the study was to investigate if exhaustive swimming in unstressed cod had any negative effects on fillet quality, and if ... -
The Effect of Cognitive–Behavioral Therapy as an Antidepressive Treatment Is Falling: Reply to Ljòtsson et al. (2017) and Cristea et al. (2017)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-03)This article critically reassesses the nonlinear reanalysis by Ljótsson, Hedman, Mattsson, and Andersson (2017) and reviews Cristea et al.’s (2017) extension of our original meta-analysis (Johnsen & Friborg, 2015) reporting a decline in the effects of cognitive–behavioral therapy (CBT) for treating unipolar depression. Ljótsson et al. fitted a piecewise meta-regression model to the data, indicating ... -
When grammar can't be trusted - Valency and semantic categories in North Sámi syntactic analysis and error detection
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2018-05-23)In this dissertation, I investigate valencies and syntactically relevant semantic categories in North Sámi. In addition, I develop three machine-readable grammars for the North Sámi grammar checker GoDivvun that have access to valencies and semantics. Like a human, a machine-readable grammar analyzes a sentence by putting together information from different linguistic levels and based on this, ... -
Ship-icing prediction methods applied in operational weather forecasting
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-10-11)Sea-spray wetting of ships operating in cold environments imposes a great safety risk, due to icing. For this reason, marine-icing warnings have been a part of operational weather forecasting for the last five decades, yet verification of such warnings has only been done sparingly. This article evaluates different ship-icing methods applied in operational weather forecasting. The methods are tested ... -
Global, regional, and national under-5 mortality, adult mortality, age-specific mortality, and life expectancy, 1970-2016: a systematic analysis for the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-09-16)Background: <br> Detailed assessments of mortality patterns, particularly age-specific mortality, represent a crucial input that enables health systems to target interventions to specific populations. Understanding how all-cause mortality has changed with respect to development status can identify exemplars for best practice. To accomplish this, the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk ... -

Epidermal growth factor receptor signaling enhances the proinflammatory effects of staphylococcus aureus gamma-toxin on the mucosa
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-06-28)Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) produces many different exotoxins including the gamma-toxins, HlgAB and HlgCB. Gamma-toxins form pores in both leukocyte and erythrocyte membranes, resulting in cell lysis. The genes encoding gamma-toxins are present in most strains of S. aureus, and are commonly expressed in clinical isolates recovered from menstrual Toxic Shock Syndrome (mTSS) patients. This study ... -
Optimization of Pure-Component LNG Cascade Processes with Heat Integration
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2018-01-15)Liquefaction of natural gas is an energy-intensive process in which the energy efficiency depends on the number of compressors stages and the heat integration scheme. The aim of the study is to systematically evaluate process performance of pure component cascade processes, present optimized designs for all relevant numbers of compression stages and compare energy consumption between processes with ... -
Potential type operators in PDEs and their applications
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-01)We prove the boundedness of Potential operator in weighted generalized Morrey space in terms of Matuszewska-Orlicz indices of weights and apply this result to the Hemholtz equation in ℝ3 with a free term in such a space. We also give a short overview of some typical situations when Potential type operators arise when solving PDEs. -
Some new Two-Sided Inequalities concerning the Fourier Transform
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017)The classical Hausdorff-Young and Hardy-Littlewood-Stein inequalities do not hold for p > 2. In this paper we prove that if we restrict to net spaces we can even derive a two-sided estimate for all p > 1. In particular, this result generalizes a recent result by Liflyand E. and Tikhonov S. [7] (MR 2464253). -
Ice intelligence retrieval by remote sensing - Possibilities and challenges in an operational setting
(Peer reviewed; Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2017)Detecting ice drift velocity when operating offshore in ice-covered waters is crucial during marine operations, as ice actions affect station keeping and ice management. Furthermore, other ice data/intelligence such as ice concentration and thickness are important parameters to determine ice resistance, evaluate performance of icebreakers and predict ice actions on structures. Different sensors are ... -
Probability distribution functions for intermittent scrape-off layer plasma fluctuations
(Journal article; Peer reviewed; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2018-01-24)A stochastic model for intermittent fluctuations in the scrape-off layer of magnetically confined plasmas has been constructed based on a super-position of uncorrelated pulses arriving according to a Poisson process. In the most common applications of the model, the pulse amplitudes are assumed exponentially distributed, supported by conditional averaging of large-amplitude fluctuations in experimental ... -
Cascading lake drainage on the Greenland Ice Sheet triggered by tensile shock and fracture
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2018-03-14)Supraglacial lakes on the Greenland Ice Sheet are expanding inland, but the impact on ice flow is equivocal because interior surface conditions may preclude the transfer of surface water to the bed. Here we use a well-constrained 3D model to demonstrate that supraglacial lakes in Greenland drain when tensile-stress perturbations propagate fractures in areas where fractures are normally absent or ...
