    • Machine learning assisted multifrequency AFM: Force model prediction

Elsherbiny, Lamiaa; Santos Hernandez, Sergio; Gadelrab, Karim; Olukan, Tuza; Font, Josep; Barcons, Victor; Chiesa, Matteo (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-05)
Multifrequency atomic force microscopy (AFM) enhances resolving power, provides extra contrast channels, and is equipped with a formalism to quantify material properties pixel by pixel. On the other hand, multifrequency AFM lacks the ability to extract and examine the profile to validate a given force model while scanning. We propose exploiting data-driven algorithms, i.e., machine learning packages, ...
    • When Modality and Tense Meet. The Future Marker budet ‘will’ in Impersonal Constructions with the Modal Adverb možno ‘be possible’

My contribution can be summarized as follows. First, corpus-based evidence reveals that možno + inf constructions are vastly more frequent than constructions with copula. Second, the meaning of constructions ...
    • Quantifying short-term changes in snow strength due to increasing liquid water content above hydraulic barriers

Schlumpf, Mikael; Hendrikx, Jordy; Stormont, John C.; Webb, Ryan (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-10-31)
The rapid weakening of snow layers that accumulate infiltrating liquid water is a well-known, but poorly quantified, mechanism for wet-snow slab avalanche formation. Therefore, quantifying this mechanical process is a crucial part of forecasting these snow avalanches accurately. Currently, studies do not agree on how snow strength should change as a function of volumetric liquid water content ( ) ...
    • Calcium isotopes track volatile components in the mantle sources of alkaline rocks and associated carbonatites

Chen, Chunfei; Foley, Stephen F.; Tappe, Sebastian; Ren, Huange; Feng, Lanping; Liu, Yongsheng (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-11-16)
The volatile components CO2 and H2O induce mantle melting and thus exert major controls on mantle heterogeneity. Primitive intraplate alkaline magmatic rocks are the closest analogues for incipient mantle melts and provide the most direct method to assess such mantle heterogeneity. Given the considerable Ca isotope differences among carbonate, clinopyroxene, garnet, and orthopyroxene in the mantle ...

    • Por qué vienen palabras (complejas) en los diccionarios.

Fabregas, Antonio (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-27)
    • Counting geodesics of given commutator length

Erlandsson, Viveka; Souto, Juan (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-15)
Let Σ be a closed hyperbolic surface. We study, for fixed g, the asymptotics of the number of those periodic geodesics in Σ having at most length L and which can be written as the product of g commutators. The basic idea is to reduce these results to being able to count critical realizations of trivalent graphs in Σ. In the appendix, we use the same strategy to give a proof of Huber’s geometric ...

    • Some new multidimensional Cochran-Lee and Hardy type inequalities

Yimer, Markos Fisseha; Persson, Lars-Erik; Ayele, Tsegaye Gedif (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023)
A multidimensional Cochran-Lee operator is introduced and investigated in the frame of Hardy-type inequalities with parameters 0<p⩽q<∞. Moreover, for the case p=q and power weights even the sharp constant is derived, thus generalizing the original Cochran-Lee inequality to a multidimensional setting. As applications both several known but also new inequalities are pointed out.
