B12 and F430 models: Metal- versus ligand-centered redox in cobalt and nickel tetradehydrocorrin derivatives
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-23)DFT calculations with the well-tested OLYP and B3LYP* exchange-correlation functionals (along with D3 dispersion corrections and all-electron ZORA STO-TZ2P basis sets) and careful use of group theory have led to significant insights into the question of metal- versus ligand-centered redox in Co and Ni B,C-tetradehydrocorrin complexes. For the cationic complexes, both metals occur in their low-spin ... -
Evaluation of Synthetic Categorical Data Generation Techniques for Predicting Cardiovascular Diseases and Post-Hoc Interpretability of the Risk Factors
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-23)Machine Learning (ML) methods have become important for enhancing the performance of decision-support predictive models. However, class imbalance is one of the main challenges for developing ML models, because it may bias the learning process and the model generalization ability. In this paper, we consider oversampling methods for generating synthetic categorical clinical data aiming to improve the ... -

Complementary and alternative medicine use for supportive care in childhood cancer - Prevalence of use, effectiveness, safety and clinical practice
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2023-10-03)<p>Childhood cancer treatment protocols have been successful due to the prompt and accurate diagnosis, availability of care, and access to high-quality medical resources. As the survival rates increase in high-income countries (HIC), the emphasis has shifted from survival to survival, emphasizing quality of life. The health complaints and adverse effects of cancer treatment are burdensome for children, ... -
Gruppelærerdagen – undervisningskvalitet fra første time
Mapping class group orbit closures for non-orientable surfaces
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-05-12)Let S be a connected non-orientable surface with negative Euler characteristic and of finite type. We describe the possible closures in ML and PML of the mapping class group orbits of measured laminations, projective measured laminations and points in Teichmüller space. In particular we obtain a characterization of the closure in ML of the set of weighted two-sided curves. -
A Comparison of Arctic Ocean Sea Ice Export Between Nares Strait and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-04-13)Nares Strait and the channels of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago (CAA) act as conduits for sea ice export from the Arctic Ocean but have never been directly compared. Here, we perform such a comparison for both the sea ice area and volume fluxes from October 2016 to December 2021. Nares Strait provided the largest average seasonal (October through September) ice area flux of 95 ± 8 × 103 ... -
Reflection groups and cones of sums of squares
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-15)We consider cones of real forms which are sums of squares and invariant under a (finite) reflection group. Using the representation theory of these groups we are able to use the symmetry inherent in these cones to give more efficient descriptions. We focus especially on the <i>A</i>n, <i>B</i>n and <i>D</i>n case where we use so-called higher Specht polynomials to ... -
Neurological and respiratory effects of lung protective ventilation in acute brain injury patients without lung injury: brain vent, a single centre randomized interventional study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-03-20)Introduction - Lung protective ventilation (LPV) comprising low tidal volume (VT) and high positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) may compromise cerebral perfusion in acute brain injury (ABI). In patients with ABI, we investigated whether LPV is associated with increased intracranial pressure (ICP) and/or deranged cerebral autoregulation (CA), brain compensatory reserve and oxygenation.<p> <p>Methods ... -
Seafloor warm water temperature anomalies impact benthic macrofauna communities of a high-Arctic cold-water fjord
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-06-05)Amid the alarming atmospheric and oceanic warming rates taking place in the Arctic, western fjords around the Svalbard archipelago are experiencing an increased frequency of warm water intrusions in recent decades, causing ecological shifts in their ecosystems. However, hardly anything is known about their potential impacts on the until recently considered stable and colder northern fjords. We ... -
Cohesive collisions of particles in liquid media studied by CFD-DEM, video tracking, and Positron Emission Particle Tracking
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-05-18)This paper investigates the cohesive collision of ice in an oil phase at temperatures ranging from −15.7 °C to −0.3 °C. The new information on the coefficient of restitution (COR) was obtained using three different velocity measurement methods: high-speed experimental video recording, Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT), and numerical simulations. A new type of PEPT tracer was developed for ... -
Fossil organic carbon utilization in marine Arctic fjord sediments by subsurface micro-organisms
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2023)Rock-derived or petrogenic organic carbon has traditionally been regarded as being non-bioavailable and bypassing the active carbon cycle when eroded. However, it has become apparent that this organic carbon might not be so inert, especially in fjord systems where petrogenic organic carbon influxes can be high, making its degradation another potential source of greenhouse gas emissions. The extent ... -
Data-driven modeling of energy-exergy in marine engines by supervised ANNs based on fuel type and injection angle classification
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-16)The application of artificial neural networks with the involvement of a modified homogeneity factor to predict exergetic terms from combustive and/or mixing dynamics in a marine engine is considered in this study. This is a significant step since the mathematical formulation of exergy in combustion is complicated and even unconvincing due to the turbulent and highly nonlinear nature of the combustion ... -
