This longitudinal study examined the intention to quit (ITQ) among child welfare and protection (CWP) workers in Norway and its relationship with mentoring. Participants from 80 municipalities were surveyed at three time points (T1: n = 225, T2: n = 168, T3: n = 64). Linear mixed models revealed an increasing ITQ over time, with no significant impact of mentoring on ITQ trajectories or levels. Despite theoretical support for mentoring’s role in retention, variations in mentoring’s frequency, duration, and content may explain its lack of effect. The study suggests that future research should employ an experimental design to isolate the influence of specific mentoring attributes on CWP workers’ ITQ.en_US
