This study is the first to report on Big Five personality traits of employees in the Norwegian military Special Operations Forces (NORSOF). Three research questions were formulated for this study, aiming to investigate (1) whether age, number of combat-deployments and rank (OR/OF) had an impact on the personalities of NORSOF employees, (2) possible personality differences between personnel organized ...
    • Biliary Adenofibroma: A Rare Liver Tumor with Transition to Invasive Carcinoma

Alshbib, Ayham; Grzyb, Krzysztof; Syversveen, Trygve; Reims, Henrik Mikael; Lassen, Kristoffer; Yaqub, Sheraz (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-02-07)
Biliary adenofibroma is a rare benign liver tumor with potential for malignant transition. It has a bile duct origin characterized by a complex tubulocystic biliary epithelium with fibrous stroma. MRI features may suggest this uncommon entity, and histological findings can be diagnostic. We report a case of biliary adenofibroma with transformation to an intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
    • Bilingualism as a gradient measure modulates functional connectivity of language and control networks

Sulpizio, Simone; Del Maschio, Nicola; Del Mauro, Gianpaolo; Fedeli, Davide; Abutalebi, Jubin (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-10-22)
There is currently no agreement on which factor modulates most effectively and enduringly brain plasticity in bilingual individuals. Grouping heterogeneous linguistic profiles under a dichotomous condition (bilingualism versus monolingualism) may obscure critical aspects of language experience underlying neural changes, thus leading to variable and often conflicting findings. In the present study, ...
    • Binding Specificity of ASHH2 CW Domain Toward H3K4me1 Ligand Is Coupled to Its Structural Stability Through Its α1-Helix

Bril'kov, Maxim; Dobrovolska, Olena; Ødegård-Fougner, Øyvind; Turcu, Diana Cornelia; Strømland, Øyvind; Underhaug, Jarl; Aasland, Rein; Halskau, Øyvind (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-13)
The CW domain binds to histone tail modifications found in different protein families involved in epigenetic regulation and chromatin remodeling. CW domains recognize the methylation state of the fourth lysine on histone 3 and could, therefore, be viewed as a reader of epigenetic information. The specificity toward different methylation states such as me1, me2, or me3 depends on the particular ...
    • Bioactive Compounds from Marine Heterobranchs

Avila, Conxita; Angulo-Preckler, Carlos (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-21)
The natural products of heterobranch molluscs display a huge variability both in structure and in their bioactivity. Despite the considerable lack of information, it can be observed from the recent literature that this group of animals possesses an astonishing arsenal of molecules from different origins that provide the molluscs with potent chemicals that are ecologically and pharmacologically ...
    • Biogeochemical consequences of a changing Arctic shelf seafloor ecosystem

März, Christian; Freitas, Felipe; Faust, Johan Christoph; Godbold, Jasmin A.; Tessin, Alyson; Abbott, Geoffrey D.; Airs, Ruth; Arndt, Sandra; Barnes, David K.A.; Grange, Laura; Gray, Neil; Head, Ian M.; Hendry, Katharine R; Hilton, Robert; Reed, Adam J.; Ruhl, Saskia; Solan, Martin; Stevenson, Mark A; Tait, Karen; Ward, James M.; Widdicombe, Stephen; Souster, Terri A. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-10-09)
Unprecedented and dramatic transformations are occurring in the Arctic in response to climate change, but academic, public, and political discourse has disproportionately focussed on the most visible and direct aspects of change, including sea ice melt, permafrost thaw, the fate of charismatic megafauna, and the expansion of fisheries. Such narratives disregard the importance of less visible and ...
    • Biographical Sketch

Allott, Nicholas Elwyn; Lohndal, Terje; Rey, Georges (Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2021)
As the synoptic introduction makes clear, Noam Chomsky is a unique intellectual figure who has had a huge impact on several fields. He was almost single-handedly responsible for initiating the cognitive revolution in linguistics, and, with others such as George Miller, Hilary Putnam and Jerry Fodor, for the ensuing replacement of behaviorism by cognitive science in psychology generally, to say nothing ...
    • Biomechanical differences in double poling between sexes and level of performance during a classical cross-country skiing competition

Jonsson, Malin; Welde, Boye; Stoggl, Thomas Leonhard (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-02-12)
Biomechanical differences in double poling (DP) between sex and performance level were investigated in female and male cross-country skiers during a classical race (10/15 km). Skiers were divided into faster and slower on basis of race performance: females faster (n=20), females slower (n=20), males faster (n=20), and males slower (n=20). Based on video analysis while DP in a flat section of the ...

Dang, Nga Phuong; Petrich, Chris; O'Sadnick, Megan; Toske, Lisa (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2020-01-01)
The biotransformation of hydrocarbon compounds in seawater at sub-zero temperature has gained research interest in recent years with the most focus placed on temperatures around 0°C. In this study, biotransformation of dispersed diesel at sub-zero temperatures (−2°C to −6°C) in artificial brines, prepared by adding Instant Ocean salt to natural seawater to increase salinity, is examined. The oil was ...
    • Biphasic release of the alarmin high mobility group box 1 protein early after trauma predicts poor clinical outcome

Ottestad, William Arne; Rognes, Ingrid Nygren; Pischke, Søren; Mollnes, Tom Eirik; Andersson, Ulf; Eken, Torsten (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-08)
<i>Objective</i>: The causal role of the prototype alarmin high mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) in systemic inflammation and remote organ injury after trauma and shock is established in animal models but not in humans. Our aim was therefore to determine HMGB1 concentration kinetics with high time resolution during the first hours after trauma in individual patients, and investigate the ...
    • Bisphosphonates and mortality: confounding in observational studies

Bergman, Jonathan; Nordström, Anna Hava; Hommel, Ami; Kivipelto, Miia; Nordström, Peter (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-31)
<p><i>Summary - </i>Numerous observational studies suggest that bisphosphonates reduce mortality. This study showed that bisphosphonate use is associated with lower mortality within days of treatment, although the association was not significant until the second week. Such an early association is consistent with confounding, although an early treatment effect cannot be ruled out. <p><i>Introduction ...

    • The blood transcriptome prior to ovarian cancer diagnosis: A case-control study in the NOWAC postgenome cohort

Jareid, Mie Linnea; Snapkov, Igor; Holden, Marit; Busund, Lill-Tove Rasmussen; Lund, Eiliv; Nøst, Therese Haugdahl (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-08-27)
Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) has a 5-year relative survival of 50%, partly because markers of early-stage disease are not available in current clinical diagnostics. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether EOC is associated with transcriptional profiles in blood collected up to 7 years before diagnosis. For this, we used RNA-stabilized whole blood, which contains circulating immune ...

    • Bo Lindberg, Disputation, dissertation, avhandling: historien om en genre (Stockholm: Kungl. Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Akademien, 2022). 248 s.

Aspaas, Per Pippin (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-20)

Bone-specific drugs (BSDs) increase the risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ), but whether they increase the risk of osteonecrosis at other sites is not known. Two studies, a cohort study and a case–control study, were conducted using registry data on everyone who was residing in Sweden on December 31, 2005, and who was 50 years of age or older at the time (n = 3,523,912). In the cohort study, ...
    • Book History in the Nordic Countries: Introduction

Hansen, Poul Henning Gustaf; Simonsen, Maria Sofie (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-11-22)
What characterizes Nordic book history? This was the first thing on our minds when we considered the present special issue of Mémoires du livre – Studies in Book Culture. Setting out on the project and distributing the call for papers we hoped to come up with some sort of answer to our question. However, there is no simple single‑word or single‑sentence answer that encapsulates Nordic book history. ...
    • Boron concentrations and isotopic compositions in methane-derived authigenic carbonates: Constraints and limitations in reconstructing formation conditions

Hong, Wei-Li; Lepland, Aivo; Kirsimäe, Kalle; Crémière, Antoine; Rae, James W.B. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-23)
The boron content and isotopic composition (δ11B), of marine carbonates have the potential to constrain CO2 chemistry during carbonate growth conditions. However, obtaining and interpreting boron compositions from authigenic carbonates in geological archives present several challenges that may substantially limit their application. In particular, contamination from non-carbonate ...
