Wake formation behind Langmuir probes in ionospheric plasmas
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-20)This paper presents a simulation study of the wake formation behind a Langmuir probe thinner than the Debye Length in the space environments such as the ionosphere’s F region. We find that the wakes formed in plasma density and electric potential behind the positively biased probe can extend up to 15 Debye lengths in the subsonic plasma flow. Higher electric bias and flow velocity can further enhance ... -
Complex onsets and coda markedness in Persian
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-30)This paper argues for the Coda Condition to be a universal set of violable constraints on the basis of new vowel epenthesis data from Persian (Farsi). Vowel insertion in L2 phonology, loanwords, and nonce-words is driven by a strict ban on consonant clusters in syllable onsets. The choice between anaptyxis and prothesis is determined by the Coda Condition. As there is no detectable evidence for ... -

We have derived a global atlas of ALAN throughout the marine water column that will accelerate our understanding of its sources and environmental impacts. At a depth of 1 m, ... -
DNA metabarcoding reveals the importance of gelatinous zooplankton in the diet of Pandalus borealis, a keystone species in the Arctic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-22)Information about the dietary composition of a species is crucial to understanding their position and role in the food web. Increasingly, molecular approaches such as DNA metabarcoding are used in studying trophic relationships, not least because they may alleviate problems such as low taxonomic resolution or underestimation of digestible taxa in the diet. Here, we used DNA metabarcoding with universal ... -

Endonuclease v regulates atherosclerosis through c-c motif chemokine ligand 2-mediated monocyte infiltration
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-14)BACKGROUND: In cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerotic disorder are the most frequent and important with respect to morbidity and mortality. Inflammation mediated by immune cells is central in all parts of the atherosclerotic progress, and further understanding of the underlying mechanisms is needed. Growing evidence suggests that deamination of adenosine-toinosine in RNA is crucial for a correct ... -
Serum miR371 in testicular germ cell cancer before and after orchiectomy, assessed by digital-droplet PCR in a prospective study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-08-02)MicroRNA-371a-3p (miR371) has been suggested as a sensitive biomarker in testicular germ cell cancer (TGCC). We aimed to compare miR371 with the classical biomarkers α-fetoprotein (AFP) and β-human chorionic gonadotropin (hCGβ). Overall, 180 patients were prospectively enrolled in the study, with serum samples collected before and after orchiectomy. We compared the use of digital droplet ... -

Lessons Learned Developing and Using a Machine Learning Model to Automatically Transcribe 2.3 Million Handwritten Occupation Codes
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-01-06)Machine learning approaches achieve high accuracy for text recognition and are therefore increasingly used for the transcription of handwritten historical sources. However, using machine learning in production requires a streamlined end-to-end pipeline that scales to the dataset size and a model that achieves high accuracy with few manual transcriptions. The correctness of the model results must ... -
Long-distance particle transport to the central Ionian Sea
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-14)Together with T –S properties, particle abundance in situ measurements are useful to discriminate water masses and derive circulation patterns. In the upper layers of the Ionian Sea, the fresher Atlantic Waters (AW) recently crossing the Sicily Channel meet the resident and saltier AW, which circulated cyclonically in the eastern basin and modified after evaporation and eventually cooling. In ... -
Increased snow and cold season temperatures alter High Arctic parasitic fungi – host plant interactions
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-05-07)In the Arctic, fungal mycelial growth takes place mainly during the cold season and beginning of growing season. Climate change induced increases of cold season temperatures may, hence, benefit fungal growth and increase their abundance. This is of particular importance for parasitic fungi, which may significantly shape Arctic vegetation composition. Here, we studied two contrasting plant parasitic ... -
