The role of Skolt Saami religious texts in language development and revitalization
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023)The focus of this article is the role of translations of religious literature into Skolt Saami in the development of the Skolt Saami written language and in the process of language revitalization. The Orthodox Church has had a strong influence on the life of Skolt Saami people, however, the interaction between language and religion and its significance is usually overlooked in the research context. ... -

Photophysics of uracil: an explicit time-dependent generating function-based method combining both nonadiabatic and spin-orbit coupling effects
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-14)We present a composite framework for calculating the rates of non-radiative deactivation processes, namely internal conversion (IC) and intersystem crossing (ISC), on an equal footing by explicitly computing the non-adiabatic coupling (NAC) and spin–orbit coupling (SOC) constants, respectively. The stationary-state approach uses a time-dependent generating function based on Fermi's golden rule. We ... -
DFT benchmarking for adsorption energy in wastewater treatment
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-07-31)Despite its potential importance, the computational chemistry of adsorption processes for wastewater treatment has received negligible attention. Exploring the literature shows several limitations in applying quantum chemistry to study adsorption processes in wastewater treatment. The choice of suitable functionals of density functional theory (DFT) is one of the critical limits of the current ... -
Freedom - feeling free in an (un)free world
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-08-18)This chapter explores what it means and how feels like to be free in social life. Despite current collectivist backlashes from both the political right (neo-nationalism) and left (identity-politics), individual freedom is still probably the ‘ultimate value’ (Talcott Parsons) of contemporary liberal democracies. Whereas economists, political scientists and political philosophers discuss freedom in ... -
New Implementation of an Equation-of-Motion Coupled-Cluster Damped-Response Framework with Illustrative Applications to Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-10)We present an implementation of a damped response framework for calculating resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) at the equation-of-motion coupled-cluster singles and doubles (CCSD) and second-order approximate coupled-cluster singles and doubles (CC2) levels of theory in the open-source program eT. This framework lays the foundation for future extension to higher excitation methods (notably, ... -
Augmented Reality enhanced device usage training tool for in-home health-self-monitoring by pregnant women
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2023-09)Virtual care comprising virtual visits and monitoring via audio or video has the potential to reduce access barriers to care and has been successfully implemented in prenatal care. It reduces the frequency of in-person visits and increases self-care skills. However, the knowledge and competence in handling monitoring equipment at home directly influences satisfaction and engagement with the ... -
Exploring Earthly relations through curiography
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-01-24)Recognizing that humans inhabit Earth with multiple others and that humans have worsened opportunities for life on Earth calls for a reassessment of the research practices through which the world is explored. The development of more-than-human methodologies is underway, as reflected in the emergence of more-than-human or multispecies ethnographies. However, leaning on ethnography as a methodological ... -
Phylogenetic position of Canaridiscus and reestablishment of Gonyodiscus (Gastropoda, Discidae)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-13)The genus Canaridiscus M. R. Alonso & Ibáñez, 2011, endemic to the Canary Islands, has a curious taxonomic history and is currently defined based only on the peculiar anatomy of its genital organs. Its relationship to European Discus species and other members of the family Discidae is unclear and its status as a distinct genus remains tentative. In the present study we include a species of Canaridiscus, ... -
Some New weak-(Hp-Lp) Type Inequalities For Weighted Maximal Operators Of Fejér Means Of Walsh–Fourier Series
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-13)We introduce some new weighted maximal operators of the Fejér means of the Walsh–Fourier series. We prove that for some "optimal" weights these new operators are bounded from the martingale Hardy space Hp(G) to the space weak-Lp(G), for 0 <p<1/2. Moreover, we also prove sharpness of this result. As a consequence we obtain some new and well-known results. -
'Svalbard in Polish Documentaries (1930s-2020s): A Conceptualized Inventory'
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023)For the first time ever, over fifty Polish documentaries about Svalbard, filmed during the ninety years of Polish presence on the archipelago, have been looked at and categorized. Four distinct periods of such documentary-making have been identified and characterized: the heroic (in the 1930s), the exotic (in the 1950s-60s), the routine (in the 1970-90s) and the ethical (from the 1990s until present). ... -
Arctic HARE: A Machine Learning-Based System for Performance Analysis of Cross-Country Skiers
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-03-31)Advances in sensor technology and big data processing enable new and improved performance analysis of sport athletes. With the increase in data variety and volume, both from on-body sensors and cameras, it has become possible to quantify the specific movement patterns that make a good athlete. This paper describes Arctic Human Activity Recognition on the Edge (Arctic HARE): a skiing-technique training ... -
Mabnet: Master Assistant Buddy Network With Hybrid Learning for Image Retrieval
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-05-05)Image retrieval has garnered a growing interest in recent times. The current approaches are either supervised or self-supervised. These methods do not exploit the benefits of hybrid learning using both supervision and self-supervision. We present a novel Master Assistant Buddy Network (MAB-Net) for image retrieval which incorporates both the learning mechanisms. MABNet consists of master and assistant ... -
Aux-Drop: Handling Haphazard Inputs in Online Learning Using Auxiliary Dropouts
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023)Many real-world applications based on online learning produce streaming data that is haphazard in nature, i.e., contains missing features, features becoming obsolete in time, the appearance of new features at later points in time and a lack of clarity on the total number of input features. These challenges make it hard to build a learnable system for such applications, and almost no work exists in ... -
