    • Redox state of the Dharwar craton root as inferred from eclogite and peridotite sourced mantle cargo, with implications for kimberlite and lamproite magma formation

Shaikh, Azhar M.; Bussweiler, Yannick; Viljoen, Fanus; Bolhar, Robert; Ravi, S.; Hezel, Dominik C.; Ueckermann, Henriëtte; Tappe, Sebastian (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-11-16)
Despite over 400 occurrences of kimberlites and related rocks in India, mantle-derived xenoliths are known only from a few occurrences. This paucity of mantle-derived xenoliths in Indian kimberlites has hampered investigations of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle (SCLM). Using a valuable selection of the rare xenolith inventory, we here report Fe3+/ΣFe measurements for garnets using ...

    • Photophysics of uracil: an explicit time-dependent generating function-based method combining both nonadiabatic and spin-orbit coupling effects

Karak, Pijush; Moitra, Torsha; Ruud, Kenneth; Chakrabarti, Swapan (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-02-14)
We present a composite framework for calculating the rates of non-radiative deactivation processes, namely internal conversion (IC) and intersystem crossing (ISC), on an equal footing by explicitly computing the non-adiabatic coupling (NAC) and spin–orbit coupling (SOC) constants, respectively. The stationary-state approach uses a time-dependent generating function based on Fermi's golden rule. We ...
    • DFT benchmarking for adsorption energy in wastewater treatment

Malloum, Alhadji; Conradie, Jeanet (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-07-31)
Despite its potential importance, the computational chemistry of adsorption processes for wastewater treatment has received negligible attention. Exploring the literature shows several limitations in applying quantum chemistry to study adsorption processes in wastewater treatment. The choice of suitable functionals of density functional theory (DFT) is one of the critical limits of the current ...
    • Freedom - feeling free in an (un)free world

Aakvaag, Gunnar Colbjørnsen; Hviid Jacobsen, Michael (Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-08-18)
This chapter explores what it means and how feels like to be free in social life. Despite current collectivist backlashes from both the political right (neo-nationalism) and left (identity-politics), individual freedom is still probably the ‘ultimate value’ (Talcott Parsons) of contemporary liberal democracies. Whereas economists, political scientists and political philosophers discuss freedom in ...

Virtual care comprising virtual visits and monitoring via audio or video has the potential to reduce access barriers to care and has been successfully implemented in prenatal care. It reduces the frequency of in-person visits and increases self-care skills. However, the knowledge and competence in handling monitoring equipment at home directly influences satisfaction and engagement with the ...
    • Exploring Earthly relations through curiography

Valtonen, Anu; Salmela, Tarja (Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2023-01-24)
Recognizing that humans inhabit Earth with multiple others and that humans have worsened opportunities for life on Earth calls for a reassessment of the research practices through which the world is explored. The development of more-than-human methodologies is underway, as reflected in the emergence of more-than-human or multispecies ethnographies. However, leaning on ethnography as a methodological ...

The genus Canaridiscus M. R. Alonso & Ibáñez, 2011, endemic to the Canary Islands, has a curious taxonomic history and is currently defined based only on the peculiar anatomy of its genital organs. Its relationship to European Discus species and other members of the family Discidae is unclear and its status as a distinct genus remains tentative. In the present study we include a species of Canaridiscus, ...
    • Some New weak-(Hp-Lp) Type Inequalities For Weighted Maximal Operators Of Fejér Means Of Walsh–Fourier Series

Baramidze, Davit; Tephnadze, G. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-12-13)
We introduce some new weighted maximal operators of the Fejér means of the Walsh–Fourier series. We prove that for some "optimal" weights these new operators are bounded from the martingale Hardy space Hp(G) to the space weak-Lp(G), for 0 <p<1/2. Moreover, we also prove sharpness of this result. As a consequence we obtain some new and well-known results.
