Kartlegging av skinnebehandling i norske private tannklinikker: behandler, pris og informasjonssamsvar

Abstract

Bakgrunn: Kjeveortopedisk behandling med skinner inngår ikke i grunnutdanningen av tannleger, men tilbys av privatpraktiserende allmenntannleger. Vi ønsket å kartlegge hvem som tilbyr skinnebehandling i norske private tannklinikker, samt undersøke prissetting og prisforskjeller mellom ulike behandlere, og hvorvidt denne informasjonen samsvarte mellom telefon og nettside. Metode: Oversikten over norske tannklinikker ble levert av Legelisten og bestod av totalt 2452 klinikker. Offentlige klinikker og klinikker med navn som tydelig indikerte at de var kjeveortopediske, ble ekskludert fra utvalget. Etter eksklusjon gjenstod 1635 klinikker, hvorav et randomisert utvalg på 404 klinikker ble kontaktet for å samle inn informasjon. Klinikkene ble ringt og det ble registrert om klinikkene tilbød skinnebehandling, om behandlingen ble utført av en allmenntannlege eller kjeveortoped, samt pris. Nettsidene til klinikkene som tilbød skinnebehandling ble gjennomgått. Informasjonen fra telefonhenvendelsene ble sammenlignet med det som var oppgitt på nettsidene for å vurdere samsvar. Resultater: 94 (39,5%) av private klinikker i Norge som ble kontaktet oppga over telefon at de tilbød skinnebehandling. Av klinikkene som tilbød skinnebehandling hadde 78 (83,0%) klinikker kun tannlege som behandler, mens åtte (8,5 %) hadde kjeveortoped og åtte (8,5 %) hadde begge. På nettsidene var det 52 (88,1%) som ikke oppga hvem som utførte behandlingen. Gjennomsnittsprisen oppgitt over telefon var 39 101 kr (SD: 11 868 kr). Det var en signifikant forskjell i prisinformasjon gitt over telefon, hvor behandling hos kjeveortopeder som ikke jobber på en åpenbart kjeveortopedisk klinikk var dyrere enn hos allmennpraktiserende tannleger. Det var samsvar mellom informasjonen på telefon og nettside om behandler hos fem klinikker. Én klinikk hadde samsvar mellom informasjon om pris på telefon og nettside, mens 22 klinikker hadde en prisdifferanse fra 1 010 kr til 32 500 kr mellom telefon og nettside. Konklusjon: Omtrent 40% av norske private ikke-kjeveortopediske klinikker tilbyr skinnebehandling. Majoriteten hadde tannlege som behandler. Gjennomsnittsprisen for skinnebehandling i norske private, ikke-kjeveortopediske tannklinikker er rundt 40 000 kr. Nettsidene manglet generelt informasjon om skinnebehandling og behandler, og prisene samsvarte ikke med opplysninger gitt på telefon.

Background: Orthodontic treatment with aligners is not included in the basic education of dentists but is offered by private general dental practitioners. We aimed to assess who provides aligner treatment in Norwegian private dental clinics, investigate pricing and price differences between providers, and assess whether this information was consistent between phone inquiries and clinic websites. Methods: The list of Norwegian dental clinics was provided by Legelisten and included a total of 2,452 clinics. Public clinics and clinics with names clearly indicating they were orthodontic were excluded from the sample. After exclusion, 1,635 clinics remained, of which a randomized selection of 404 clinics was contacted to collect information. The clinics were called, and it was recorded whether they offered aligner treatment, whether the treatment was performed by a general dentist or an orthodontist, and the price. The websites of clinics offering aligner treatment were reviewed. Information from phone inquiries was compared with the information provided on the websites to assess consistency. Results: A total of 94 (39.5%) private clinics in Norway contacted via phone reported offering aligner treatment. Among these clinics, 78 (83.0%) had only general dentists performing the treatment, while eight (8.5%) had orthodontists, and another eight (8.5%) had both. On the websites, 52 (88.1%) did not specify who performed the treatment. The average price quoted over the phone was NOK 39,101 (SD: NOK 11,868). There was a significant difference in price information provided over the phone, with treatment by orthodontists not working in explicitly orthodontic clinics being more expensive than treatment by general dentists. Consistency between phone and website information regarding the provider was found in five clinics. One clinic had consistent price information between phone and website, while 22 clinics showed a price discrepancy ranging from NOK 1,010 to NOK 32,500 between phone and website. Conclusion: Approximately 40% of Norwegian private non-orthodontic clinics offer aligner treatment, with the majority having general dentists as providers. The average price for aligner treatment in Norwegian private, non-orthodontic dental clinics is around NOK 40,000. Websites generally lacked information about aligner treatment and providers, and prices often did not match the information given over the phone.
