Simple and effective: T90 codends improve size selectivity and catch efficiency compared with diamond-mesh codends for mantis shrimp (Oratosquilla oratoria) in demersal trawl fishery of the South China Sea
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-30)Size selectivity and catch efficiency of four codends were tested and compared for mantis shrimp (Oratosquilla oratoria) in demersal trawl fisheries of the South China Sea (SCS). These codends were differing in mesh shapes, diamond mesh (T0) and diamond-mesh turned 90° (T90) with mesh sizes of 30 and 35 mm, respectively. The results demonstrated that the T0 codend with a lower mesh size, 30 mm, ... -
Carbon and Lipid Contents of the Copepod Calanus finmarchicus Entering Diapause in the Fram Strait and Their Contribution to the Boreal and Arctic Lipid Pump
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-06-28)The boreal copepod Calanus finmarchicus sequesters substantial amounts of carbon (C) in the deep layers of the North Atlantic Ocean through their contribution to the “lipid pump.” This pump is driven by these zooplankton descending from the surface layers to spend prolonged periods at depth during which time they metabolise substantial lipid reserves and a fraction suffer mortality. C. finmarchicus ... -

These codends included two mesh sizes, 30 and 35 mm, and two mesh shapes, T0 (diamond-mesh) and T90 (diamond-mesh turned by 90°), respectively. Our results demonstrated that increasing ... -
RAMARL: Robustness Analysis with Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning - Robust Reasoning in Autonomous Cyber-Physical Systems
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-10-19)A key driver to offering smart services is an infrastructure of Cyber-Physical systems (CPS)s. By definition, CPSs are intertwined physical and computational components that integrate physical behaviour with computation. The reason is to autonomously execute a task or a set of tasks providing a service or a list of end-users services. In real-life applications, CPSs operate in dynamically changing ... -
Reduced gut microbial diversity in familial hypercholesterolemia with no effect of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids intervention–a pilot trial
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-08-01)Individuals with familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) undergo an aggressive treatment with cholesterollowering drugs to prevent coronary heart disease. Recent evidence suggests an interplay between the gut microbiota, blood lipid levels and lipid-lowering drugs, but this has yet to be studied in individuals with FH. The objective of the study was to characterize the gut microbiota of individuals ... -
Projections for Sámi in Norway: Schools as Key to Revitalization
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-08-30)The paper presents three different projections of the future number of Sámi language users in Norway based on the contemporary number of children receiving instruction in Sámi in the Norwegian school system, either North, Lule or South Sámi. There exist three different curricula for the subject Sámi, one for first language pupils (Sámi 1), one for second language pupils (Sámi 2), and one for pupils ... -
Interleukin-6 inhibition in ST-elevation myocardial infarction: Immune cell profile in the randomised ASSAIL-MI trial
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-04-30)Background We recently showed that interleukin (IL)-6 inhibition by tocilizumab improves myocardial salvage in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, the mechanisms for this effect are not clear.

Methods In this exploratory sub-study of the ASSAIL-MI trial, we examined leukocyte differential counts and their relation to myocardial salvage and peak troponin T (TnT) in STEMI ... -
Breakthrough infections with the omicron and delta variants of SARS-CoV-2 result in similar re-activation of vaccine-induced immunity
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-08)Background: Results showing that sera from double vaccinated individuals have minimal neutralizing activity against Omicron have been interpreted as indicating the need for a third vaccine dose for protection. However, there is little information about early immune responses to Omicron infection in double vaccinated individuals.

Methods: We measured inflammatory mediators, antibodies to the ... -
Circulating levels and prognostic cut-offs of sST2, hs-cTnT, and NT-proBNP in women vs. men with chronic heart failure
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-05-05)Aims To define plasma concentrations, determinants, and optimal prognostic cut-offs of soluble suppression of tumorigenesis-2 (sST2), high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT), and N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NTproBNP) in women and men with chronic heart failure (HF).

Methods and results Individual data of patients from the Biomarkers In Heart Failure Outpatient Study ... -
Reduced heart rate variability is related to the number of metabolic syndrome components and manifest diabetes in the sixth Tromsø study 2007–2008
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-07-14)Both diabetes mellitus (DM) and the metabolic syndrome (MetS) are associated with autonomic neuropathy, which predisposes to cardiac events and death. Measures of heart rate variability (HRV) can be used to monitor the activity of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), and there are strong indications that HRV can be used to study the progression of ANS-related diabetes complications. This study ... -
Criterion validity of the Saltin-Grimby Physical Activity Level Scale in adolescents. The Fit Futures Study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-09-01)Background

The Saltin-Grimby Physical Activity Level Scale (SGPALS) is commonly used to measure physical activity (PA) in population studies, but its validity in adolescents is unknown. This study aimed to assess the criterion validity of the SGPALS against accelerometry in a large sample of adolescents. A secondary aim was to examine the validity across strata of sex, body mass index (BMI), ... -
Seismic performance of reinforced concrete frame for the risk assessment process
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2017)Risk assessment is a suitable method for general decision making in the field of seismic safety. The aim of seismic risk assessment is to calculate the probability of detrimental economic and social effects in a particular region due to earthquake. Performing risk assessment requires information about seismic performance and response of the structure. In this paper, the seismic performance of moment ... -
Chomsky's "Galilean" Explanatory Style
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2021-04)
Chomsky pursues a methodology in linguistics that abstracts from substantial amounts of data about actual language use in a way that has met considerable resistance from many other linguists. He thinks of this method as like that employed by Galileo and later physicists who proposed laws of motion in considerable abstraction from many of the motions we observe in daily life, focusing, for example, ... -
Toward Targeted Change Detection with Heterogeneous Remote Sensing Images for Forest Mortality Mapping
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-10-20)Several generic methods have recently been developed for change detection in heterogeneous remote sensing data, such as images from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and multispectral radiometers. However, these are not well-suited to detect weak signatures of certain disturbances of ecological systems. To resolve this problem we propose a new approach based on image-to-image translation and one-class ... -

30-day mortality in patients treated for brain metastases: extracranial causes dominate
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-05-12)Background: Established prognostic models, such as the diagnosis-specific graded prognostic assessment, were not designed to specifically address very short survival. Therefore, a brain metastases-specific 30-day mortality model may be relevant. We hypothesized that in-depth evaluation of a carefully defined cohort with short survival, arbitrarily defined as a maximum of 3 months, may provide ... -
Å gjenkjenne rasisten i oss selv
Practical and Ethical Issues in Establishing a Collection of Normal Breast Tissue Biopsies—Part of the NOWAC Post-Genome Cohort
