The aim of this thesis is to provide a study of sociolinguistic aspects of the Spanish variety spoken in Cádiz, city in the province with the same name, located in Andalucía. The focus will be on the following subjects: the linguistic attitudes of the community in Cádiz towards their own speech and the use of the address forms in the same city, concentrating on the young generation. Here, the main focus is on the plural forms, as it appears to be the use of these forms that distinguish compared to the other varieties of Spanish spoken in Spain. The study was realised in Cádiz, and the method used to describe these aspects is questionnaires, consisting of both open and closed questions. Regarding the linguistic attitudes the base of our analysis is the answers of 31 informants, classified by sex, age and education level. The analysis of the address forms is, on the other hand, based on the answers of 14 informants between 20 and 34 years old, classified by sex and education level. In addition to describing attitudes and address forms in general. It will also be investigated if the attitudes and the use of address forms vary depending on the social factors recently mentioned. This study also consider other subjects that influence on the state of affairs, such as the society of Cádiz, the social classes, the historical context and characteristics of the Spanish spoken in Andalucía, only to mention a few. Finally, the findings in the two subject areas are combined to one another, and related to other more general topics, namely, the society of Cádiz and its history. Relating these two subjects is especially interesting, knowing that attitudes can reveal important information about the development of a language, and thus one can understand, to a considerable extent, the norms of language use.
