Exitomelita sigynae gen. et sp. nov. : a new amphipod from the Arctic Loki Castle vent field with potential gill ectosymbionts
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2011)The newly discovered deep-sea hydrothermal vent field “Loki’s Castle” at 2,350 m depth at 70°N on the Knipovich Ridge north of the island Jan Mayen is the only known black smoker field from the Arctic Ridge system. This vent field holds a unique fauna clearly distinct from vent sites along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge south of Iceland. In addition to numerous maldanid and ampharetid polychaetes one animal ... -
Exotic pollen in sediments from the high Arctic Lake Tenndammen, Svalbard archipelago: diversity, sources, and transport pathways
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-01-18)We analysed the pollen and spores extracted from 73 samples of lacustrine sediments from Colesdalen in Svalbard (Lake Tenndammen) as well as 10 soil samples collected from the lake’s shores. In total, 56 pollen taxa were recorded from the sediments spanning the last 800 years, whilst 35 pollen types were found in the soil samples. Pollen was categorised as (i) regional (from Svalbard); (ii) ... -
Exploring Production and use of soapstone in Norway: Towards an interdisciplinary approach?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-12-15)In recent years, soapstone research has developed into a multidisciplinary field encompassing a broad range of topics and methodological approaches. Interdisciplinary research now attracts more interest and has contributed significantly to the identification of quarries and understanding of the distribution and use of soapstone. Most collaborative projects have related to certain geographic or ... -
Failure of two consecutive annual treatments with ivermectin to eradicate the reindeer parasites (Hypoderma tarandi, Cephenemyia trompe and Linguatula arctica) from an island in northern Norway.
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2002)The highly efficient endectocide ivermectin is used to reduce the burden of parasites in many semidomestic reindeer herds in northern Fennoscandia. In the autumn of 1995 and 1996 all reindeer on the island of Silda (42 km2) were treated with ivermectin in an attempt to eradicate the warble fly (Hypoderma (=Oedemagena) tarandi (L.)), the nose bot fly (Cephenemyia trompe (Modeer)) (Diptera: Oestridae) ... -

Fear and Fascination: Anti-Landscapes between Material Resistance and Material Transcendence
(Chapter; Bokkapittel, 2014-11-01)This article examines the mechanisms that turn landscapes into anti-landscapes: projection, material interference, and ideological contradiction. Landscape and anti-landscape are dialectical twins; whereas landscape affirms cultural and aesthetic values, anti-landscape negates them through material resistance. This negation creates a sense of material transcendence, the aesthetic appeal through ... -
Fern rhizomes as fodder in Norway
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-09-06)Background: Although ferns are often known under collective names in Norway, e.g. blom, a substantial number of vernacular names for individual fern species are known, in particular for useful or poisonous taxa. In the past, the rhizomes (Norwegian: moldfôr) of selected species were collected for fodder. Only scattered records of such use are available from southern Norway, and the tradition’s ... -

FlexiNet - QoS Investigation
(Research report; Forskningsrapport, 1997)In this report we investigate what are the main concepts and issues in the support of Quality of Service, focusing at open distributed computing and middleware platforms. We study how these issues are being addressed in research on QoS support related to middleware. QoS is about non-functional properties in general, but research has been centred around communication protocols and multimedia. The ... -
Focal vs. fecal: Seasonal variation in the diet of wild vervet monkeys from observational and DNA metabarcoding data
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-10-01)Assessing the diet of wild animals reveals valuable information about their ecology and trophic relationships that may help elucidate dynamic interactions in ecosystems and forecast responses to environmental changes. Advances in molecular biology provide valuable research tools in this field. However, comparative empirical research is still required to highlight strengths and potential biases of ... -

Looking more closely, there were foundational non-aligning factors causing friction to the alliance, relating to the legitimacy ... -

This paper gives a survey of the distribution and habitat of all 13 species of the family Gammaridae occurring or expected to occur in Norwegian waters: both marine, brackish and fresh, including Svalbard, in addition to four species found in close neighbouring waters. It also provides a short history of the study of ... -

The genetic basis and enigmatic origin of melanic polymorphism in the pomarine skua (Stercorarius pomarinus)
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-12-06)A key outstanding issue in adaptive evolution is the relationship between the genetics of intraspecific polymorphism and interspecific evolution. Here, we show that the pale/dark ventral plumage polymorphism that occurs in both the pomarine skua (Stercorarius pomarinus) and Arctic skua (S. parasiticus) is the result of convergent evolution at the same locus (MC1R), involving some of the same amino ...
