In this chapter we explore how a group of novice academic staff developed an academic identity in interaction within and across a Nordic and an international network. We also discuss the signification of working together for professional development as we use Wenger’s notion of “communities of practice” as an analytical frame. A community of practice presupposes an “open communicative space” where mutual agreements, common understanding and dialogues are important. Inspired by the idea of “teacher as researcher” we have an action research approach where active participation and involvement are central elements. The empirical data are books and articles produced by the group members and minutes from conversations within and between the networks. The work of the group can be characterized as professional development and a contribution to developing practice and academic identity.en_US
