Microvariation in multilingual situations: The importance of property-by-property acquisition
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-11-12)In this article, I argue that first language (L1), second language (L2) and third language (L3) acquisition are fundamentally the same process, based on learning by parsing. Both child and adult learners are sensitive to fine linguistic distinctions, and language development takes place in small steps. While the bulk of the article focuses on crosslinguistic influence in L2/Ln acquisition, I first ... -
Økosystemforvaltning - Hvorfor økonomisk analyse er viktig
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019)
The carnitine-butyrobetaine-TMAO pathway after cardiac transplant: Impact on cardiac allograft vasculopathy and acute rejection
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-06-19)
BACKGROUND - Alterations in the partly microbiota-dependent carnitine–γ-butyrobetaine (γBB)–trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) pathway have been linked to the progression of heart failure and atherosclerotic disease. We evaluated if circulating γBB, TMAO, and their common precursors carnitine and trimethyllysine (TML) were dysregulated after heart transplantation and associated with development ... -

What may we hope for? Education in times of climate change
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-11-10)In “The Crisis in Education,” published in 1954, Hannah Arendt suggests that adults who refuse to take responsibility for the world should not be allowed to educate children or to have children of their own. Her text describes the “general crisis,” which, according to Arendt, “has overtaken the modern world everywhere and in almost every sphere of life,” including education (Arendt, 2006, p. 170). ... -
Post-psychotic depression: Paranoia and the damage done
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-20)To mitigate the often chronic course of schizophrenia and improve functional outcome, researchers are increasingly interested in prodromal states and psychological risk factors that may predict the outbreak of psychotic symptoms, but are also amenable to change. In recent years, depressive symptoms have been proposed as precursors of psychosis and some interventional studies indicate that the ... -
Pharmacy employees' involvement in safeguarding persons with dementia who use dietary supplements: Results from a survey of Norwegian pharmacies.
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-07-19)
Background - Community-dwelling persons with dementia commonly use dietary supplements (DS), often without receiving help with the administration. Patient safety is a concern, as DS-drug interactions and adverse events are potential complications. Since many persons with dementia buy their DS in pharmacies, we investigated Norwegian pharmacy employees’ attitudes and professional practice ... -
The crystal structure of the N-acetylglucosamine 2-epimerase from Nostoc sp. KVJ10 reveals the true dimer
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-01-08)N-Acetylglucosamine 2-epimerases (AGEs) catalyze the interconversion of N-acetylglucosamine and N-acetylmannosamine. They can be used to perform the first step in the synthesis of sialic acid from N-acetylglucosamine, which makes the need for efficient AGEs a priority. This study presents the structure of the AGE from Nostoc sp. KVJ10 collected in northern Norway, ... -

High frequency and intensity of drinking may attenuate increased inflammatory cytokine levels of major depression in alcohol-use disorders
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014-07-03)
Aims - As major depression (MD) is often comorbid with alcohol‐use disorders (AUD) and alcohol itself modulates the immune system, we examined serum levels of interleukin (IL)‐6, IL‐10, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), and interferon (IFN)‐γ in AUD patients with and without MD. Putative interactions between alcohol variables and MD on cytokine levels were also assessed.
Methods - A ... -
Intramuscular vaccination of Atlantic lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus L.) induces inflammatory reactions and local immunoglobulin M production at the vaccine administration site
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-10-20)Atlantic lumpfish were vaccinated by intramuscular (im) or intraperitoneal (ip) injection with a multivalent oil‐based vaccine, while control fish were injected with phosphate‐buffered saline. Four lumpfish per group were sampled for skin/muscle and head kidney tissue at 0, 2, 7, 21 and 42 days post‐immunization (dpi) for histopathology and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Gene expressions of secretory ... -

Interaction between syllable structure and segmental properties: The case of glide distribution in Swiss French
(Conference object; Konferansebidrag, 2019-09)The distribution of glides in French and their alternation with high vowels is a recurrent topic in the literature on French phonology. Having served as testing ground for various theoretical approaches, three questions in particular that on a regular basis revive the discussion are (i) the position of the glides in the syllable structure, (ii) the nature of the process, and (iii) the nature of the ... -
