Corruption across cultures: how Norwegian organisations can operate in China and Russia

Abstract

This thesis focuses on how Norwegian organisation can handle corruption across cultures, between Norway on the one hand, and China and Russia on the other. In order to handle corruption one first has to map out the cultural environment one will be managing in. The majority of thesis is therefore tied to topic question 1: What is the type, localisation and institutionalisation of corruption in China and Russia. This topic is rather large for a limited master dissertation. Nonetheless, leaders of international organisation have to manage and a make decisions without access to information that reflects a perfect picture of reality. One do however seek to come as close as possible to reality. Using five different theoretical concept or definitions that can highlight the culture for corruption in China and Russia does this in the thesis. The data is gathered by literature review and analysed according to these concepts. The last topic question builds on these findings in order to suggest strategies for handeling corruption in these two environments.
