Assessing the impact of exposome on the course of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cystc fibrosis: The REMEDIA European Project Approach
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-08-26)Because of the direct interaction of lungs with the environment, respiratory diseases are among the leading causes of environment-related deaths in the world. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and cystic fibrosis (CF) are two highly debilitating diseases that are of particular interest in the context of environmental studies; they both are characterized by a similar progressive loss of ... -

Dietary species richness (DSR), which is recommended as a crosscutting measure of food biodiversity, has been positively associated with the micronutrient adequacy of diets ... -
Families of Gröbner Degenerations, Grassmannians and Universal Cluster Algebras
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-06-10)Let V be the weighted projective variety defined by a weighted homogeneous ideal J and C a maximal cone in the Gröbner fan of J with m rays. We construct a flat family over Am that assembles the Gröbner degenerations of V associated with all faces of C. This is a multi-parameter generalization of the classical one-parameter Gröbner degeneration associated to a weight. We explain how our ... -
Does the Stereotypicality of Mothers’ Occupation Influence Children’s Communal Occupational Aspirations and Communal Orientation?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-12-16)Career development is a lifelong process that starts in infancy and is shaped by a number of different factors during childhood, adolescence, and adulthood. Even though career development is shaped through life, relatively little is known about the predictors of occupational aspirations in childhood. Therefore, in the present work we investigate how the stereotypicality of a mother’s occupation ... -
Reconsidering Representation Alignment for Multi-View Clustering
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-13)Aligning distributions of view representations is a core component of today’s state of the art models for deep multi-view clustering. However, we identify several drawbacks with naïvely aligning representation distributions. We demonstrate that these drawbacks both lead to less separable clusters in the representation space, and inhibit the model’s ability to prioritize views. Based on these ... -
Prepositional phrases and case in North American (heritage) Icelandic
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-09-15)The paper investigates the use of PPs, specifically prepositions and the case marking on their DP arguments, in moribund North American (heritage) Icelandic (NAmIce), using data from a map task experiment. Since prepositional phrases combine semantic properties with morphosyntactic properties, PPs allow us to investigate the relative vulnerability of both domains at once. Our results show that ... -
Taxa-specific activity loss and mortality patterns in freshwater trematode cercariae under subarctic conditions
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-11-11)Cercarial activity and survival are crucial traits for the transmission of trematodes. Temperature is particularly important, as faster depletion of limited cercarial energy reserves occurs at high temperatures. Seasonal climate conditions in high latitude regions may be challenging to complete trematode life cycle during the 6-month ice-free period, but temperature effects on the activity and ... -
Avoiding Electron Spill-Out in QM/MM Calculations on Excited States with Simple Pseudopotentials
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-02-07)QM/MM calculations of electronic excitations with diffuse basis sets often have large errors due to spill-out of electrons from the quantum subsystem. The Pauli repulsion of the electrons by the environment has to be included to avoid this. We propose transferable atomic all-electron pseudopotentials that can readily be combined with most MM force fields to avoid electron spill-out. QM/MM excitation ... -
Motion event descriptions in Swedish, French, Thai and Telugu: a study in post-Talmian motion event typology
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-04)Motion-event typology has moved into a “post-Talmian” terrain of approaches focusing on an open-ended number of patterns across languages and constructions. Following a proposal to distinguish between four typological clusters, we systematically compared the motion event descriptions in four languages suggested to exemplify these clusters: Swedish, French, Thai and Telugu, with the help of an ... -
Monitoring biodiversity in the Anthropocene using remote sensing in species distribution models

Ecological models can play a key role in supporting this need and helping to safeguard the natural assets that underpin human wellbeing and support life on land and below water ... -
Lithostratigraphy and chemostratigraphy of Triassic black shales on Edgeøya, eastern Svalbard: Implications for understanding Triassic source rock formation on the Norwegian Barents Shelf
(Doctoral thesis; Doktorgradsavhandling, 2022-03-25)The Norwegian Barents Shelf (NBS) is an Arctic petroleum province with a complex geological history. Current geochemical work on oil discoveries in the region has identified Triassic mudstones as important petroleum source rocks. A review of the published literature found that several source rock-forming processes have been suggested as contributors to their formation. The aim of this thesis is thus ... -

Investigation of the impacts of design parameters on thermal performance of buildings in cold climate
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-03-29)While design optimization of buildings seeks to improve energy efficiency and, thus, leads to greenhouse gas emissions reduction, the thermal performance of buildings can be compromised. Thermal performance is an important aspect as it directly affects the health and wellbeing of occupants. This study aims to investigate using a simple simulation tool to examine the correlation between a set of ... -
Why don't all species overexploit?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-06-14)Overexploitation of natural resources is often viewed as a problem characteristic of only the human species. However, any species could evolve a capacity to overexploit its essential resources through natural selection and competition, even to the point of resource collapse. Here, we describe the processes that potentially lead to overexploitation and synthesize what is known about overexploitation ... -

Why prefixes (almost) never participate in vowel harmony
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-11-06)One of the most common ways of morphological marking is affixation, morphemes are classified according to their position. In languages with affixal morphology, suffixes and prefixes are the most common types of affixes. Despite several proposals, it has been impossible to identify solid generalisations about the behaviour of prefixes, in opposition to suffixes. This article argues that the reason ... -
