• The first independent study on the complex trial protocol version of the P300-based concealed information test: Corroboration of previous findings and highlights on vulnerabilities

Lukacs, Gaspar; Weiss, Bela; Dalos, Vera Daniella; Kilencz, Tunde; Tudja, Szabina; Csifcsak, Gabor (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-10-15)
More than a dozen studies of the Complex Trial Protocol (CTP) version of the P300-based Concealed Information Test have been published since its introduction (Rosenfeld et al., 2008), and it has been fairly consistently proven to provide high accuracy and strong resistance to countermeasures (Rosenfeld et al., 2013). However, no independent authors have verified these findings until now. In the ...
• First trans-diagnostic experiences with a novel micro-choice based concentrated group rehabilitation for patients with low back pain, long COVID, and type 2 diabetes: a pilot study

Kvale, Gerd; Søfteland, Eirik; Jürgensen, Marte; Wilhelmsen-Langeland, Ane; Haugstvedt, Anne; Hystad, Sigurd William; Ødegaard-Olsen, Øystein Theodor; Aarli, Bernt Bøgvald; Rykken, Sidsel; Frisk, Bente (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2024-01-11)
Background - The health care is likely to break down unless we are able to increase the level of functioning for the growing number of patients with complex, chronic illnesses. Hence, novel high-capacity and cost-effective treatments with trans-diagnostic effects are warranted. In accordance with the protocol paper, we aimed to examine the acceptability, satisfaction, and effectiveness of an ...
• Forebygging med jod ved radioaktivitet

Larsen, Camilla (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-03-10)
Krigen i Ukraina aktualiserer vår beredskap ved atomhendelser.
• Form follows function: pragmatic controlled trials (PCTs) have to answer different questions and require different designs than randomized controlled trials (RCTs)

Porzsolt, Franz; Wyers, Peter; Eisemann, Martin; Habs, Michael (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2012)
Rising concern for demonstrated real world comparative effectiveness has heightened interest in “pragmatic trials” design. Pragmatic trials investigate whether the efficacy, presumed or found in explanatory trials under ideal conditions, can also be detected under real world conditions, i.e. effectiveness. It is also recognized that ‘real world’ effects which are usually addressed in public health ...

• From serial reproduction to serial communication: transmission of the focus of comparison in lay communication about gender inequality

Braun, Maike; Martiny, Sarah E.; Bruckmüller, Susanne (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2023-10-21)
We introduce and explore the potential of the serial communication method, a modification of the serial reproduction paradigm in which participants communicate their own thoughts. It affords participants more agency, more closely simulating real communication. We specifically examined the transmission of the focus of comparison in explanations of gender inequality, a consequential form of equivalency ...
• From thought to action: On the relevance of including situational cues in thought about intended actions

Martiny-Huenger, Torsten; Damanskyy, Yevhen; Parks-Stamm, Elizabeth J. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-02-23)
Successful everyday self-regulation often hinges on implementing intended responses at a later time–often in specific situations. We address this self-regulation challenge by examining the role of individuals’ thought about intended actions–and specifically whether it does or does not include situational cues. We hypothesized that including situational cues when thinking about intended actions enables ...
• Functions of Vocalization in Sociosexual Behaviors in Rats (Rattus norvegicus) in a Seminatural Environment

Chu, Xi; Snoeren, Eelke; Ågmo, Anders j (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2017-01-09)
Both male and female rats produce vocalizations in the presence of a potential sexual partner. In this study, we evaluated the role of vocalizations in sociosexual behaviors in an ecologically valid procedure. Three males and 4 females were housed in a seminatural environment. In each group, 1 or 2 males and females were devocalized, and the other subjects were sham operated. Sociosexual interactions ...

• Gender at Work Across Nations: Men and Women Working in Male-Dominated and Female-Dominated Occupations are Differentially Associated with Agency and Communion

Froehlich, Laura; Olsson, Maria; Dorrough, Angela R.; Martiny, Sarah (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-24)
Occupational gender segregation is a worldwide phenomenon. Research from Western regions such as the United States and Europe shows that the observation of occupational gender segregation can perpetuate gender stereotypes (social role theory; men are ascribed agentic traits, whereas women are ascribed communal traits). However, predictions from social role theory have not been well‐tested in non‐Western ...
• Gender differences in the bidirectional relationship between alcohol consumption and sleeplessness: the Tromsø study

Rognmo, Kamilla; Bergvik, Svein; Rosenvinge, Jan H; Bratlid, Katja Lovise; Friborg, Oddgeir (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2019-04-29)
Background - The degree to which the relationship between alcohol use and sleeplessness is unidirectional or reciprocal is unclear due to great variation among the results of previous studies. The aim of the present study was to investigate if the relationship between alcohol use and sleeplessness is bidirectional by exploring how the change in and stability of alcohol use were related to ...

Despite global commitments and efforts, a gender-based division of paid and unpaid work persists. To identify how psychological factors, national policies, and the broader sociocultural context contribute to this inequality, we assessed parental-leave intentions in young adults (18–30 years old) planning to have children (N = 13,942; 8,880 identified as women; 5,062 identified as men) across 37 ...

Although Germany and Japan are top-ranking in STEM, women are underrepresented in the STEM fields of physics, engineering, and computer science in both countries. The current research investigated widespread gender-science stereotypes in STEM in the two countries (Studies 1 and 2) and negative consequences of expected backlash (i.e., imagining negative reactions and lower ascribed communion in ...

Social role theory posits that binary gender gaps in agency and communion should be larger in less egalitarian countries, reflecting these countries’ more pronounced sex-based power divisions. Conversely, evolutionary and self-construal theorists suggest that gender gaps in agency and communion should be larger in more egalitarian countries, reflecting the greater autonomy support and flexible ...
• General Measurement Tools for Assessing Mental Health Problems Among Children and Adolescents with an Intellectual Disability: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Cognitive impairment is one of the main disabilities in dementia. Physical activity (PA) has been suggested as protective for dementia. However, the findings are disparate in studies, and the question of whether this is because of reverse causality is still open. We aimed to explore the association of PA with cognition in people who later developed dementia compared to those who ...
• Girls’ perceptions of their mothers at work and home: Warm does not mean weak

Parks-Stamm, Elizabeth J.; Henson, Emma; Martiny, Sarah E. (Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-12-11)
Upper elementary school girls were surveyed about their mothers’ and fathers’ warmth, competence, and agency at home and how they imagine their parents at work. Mothers’ warmth at home was positively correlated with perceived competence and agency both at home and at work. Differences between daughters’ perceptions of their mothers and fathers at work are discussed.

Background: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is a serious eating disorder characterized by selfstarvation, extreme weight loss and alterations in brain structure. Structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) studies have documented brain volume reductions in acute AN, but it is unclear whether they are 1) regionally-specific or 2) reversible following weight restoration. Here, we measured cortical ...
