Heart Angiotensin- Converting Enzyme and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 Gene Expression Associated With Male Sex and Salt-Sensitive Hypertension in the Dahl Rat.
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-19)Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE 2) in the heart including its sex dependency in the hypertensive heart, has not been much studied compared to ACE. In the present study, we used the Dahl salt-sensitive rat exposed to fructose and salt to model a hypertensive phenotype in males, females, and ovariectomized females. Blood pressure was measured by the tale-cuff technique in the conscious state. ... -

Heat for wounds - water filtered infrared-A for wound healing- a review.
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2016-06-29)Background:<br>Water-filtered infrared-A (wIRA) is a special form of heat radiation with high tissue penetration and a low thermal load to the skin surface. wIRA corresponds to the major part of the sun’s heat radiation, which reaches the surface of the Earth in moderate climatic zones filtered by water and water vapour of the atmosphere. wIRA promotes healing of acute and chronic wounds both by ... -
Heavy decline of the largest European Arctic Skua Stercorarius parasiticus colony: interacting effects of food shortage and predation
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-09-24)Capsule: The number of breeding pairs of Europe’s largest Arctic Skua Stercorarius parasiticus colony at Slettnes, Norway, showed a dramatic decline of at least 50% over two decades, with food shortage in four years and increasing predation by Red Fox Vulpes vulpes leading to total breeding failure in five out of six recent study years.<p> Aims: To document the decline of Europe’s largest Arctic ... -
The Hematology of Tomorrow Is Here-Preclinical Models Are Not: Cell Therapy for Hematological Malignancies
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2022-01-24)The purpose of this review is to present the current knowledge on the clinical use of several forms of cell therapy in hematological malignancies and the preclinical models available for their study. In the context of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplants, mesenchymal stromal cells are pursued to help stem cell engraftment and expansion, and control graft versus host disease. We further ... -
Hemodynamic effects of a soluble guanylate cyclase stimulator, Riociguat, and an activator, Cinaciguat, during NO-modulation in healthy pigs
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2020-07-14)Cardiovascular diseases are often characterized by dysfunctional endothelium. To compensate for the related lack of nitric oxide (NO), a class of soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) stimulators and activators have been developed with the purpose of acting downstream of NO in the NO-sGC-cGMP cascade. These drugs have been discovered using photoaffinity labeling of sGC and high-throughput screening of a ... -
Hepatic disposal of advanced glycation end products during maturation and aging
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2013)Aging is characterized by progressive loss of metabolic and biochemical functions and accumulation of metabolic by-products, including advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which are observed in several pathological conditions. A number of waste macromolecules, including AGEs are taken up from the circulation by endocytosis mainly into liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (LSECs) and Kupffer cells ... -
Hepatitis B and C viruses and survival from hepatocellular carcinoma in the Arkhangelsk region: a Russian registry-based study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2013)Introduction. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide. The prevalence of hepatitis B (HBV) and C (HCV) in Russia was 7.6 and 5.4 per 100,000, respectively. The aim of this study was to assess the proportion of HCV and HBV infection among HCC patients, to evaluate associations between HCV, HBV and stage of HCC and to compare survival of HCC patients by their HBV/HCV ... -
High coffee consumption and different brewing methods in relation to postmenopausal endometrial cancer risk in the Norwegian women and cancer study: A population-based prospective study
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2014)<i>Background</i>: Coffee and its compounds have been proposed to inhibit endometrial carcinogenesis. Studies in the Norwegian population can be especially interesting due to the high coffee consumption and increasing incidence of endometrial cancer in the country.<p> <p><i>Methods</i>: A total of 97 926 postmenopausal Norwegian women from the population-based prospective Norwegian Women and ... -
High expression of CD20+ lymphocytes in soft tissue sarcomas is a positive prognostic indicator
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel, 2012)The immune status is important in cancer patients. Tissue microarrays from 249 patients with soft tissue sarcomas were constructed. Immunohistochemistry was used to evaluate the CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD20+ and CD45+ lymphocytes in tumors. High density of CD20+ lymphocytes is an independent positive prognostic indicator for these patients. -
High expression of miR-17-5p in tumor epithelium is a predictor for poor prognosis for prostate cancer patients
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2021-07-05)MicroRNAs (miRs) are small non-coding RNA molecules, which are involved in the development of various malignancies, including prostate cancer (PCa). miR-17-5p is considered the most prominent member of the miR-17-92 cluster, with an essential regulatory function of fundamental cellular processes. In many malignancies, up-regulation of miR-17-5p is associated with worse outcome. In PCa, miR-17-5p has ... -
High expression of PDGFR-β in prostate cancer stroma is independently associated with clinical and biochemical prostate cancer recurrence
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-02-24)Due to a lack of sufficient diagnostic tools to predict aggressive disease, there is a significant overtreatment of patients with prostate cancer. Platelet derived growth factors (PDGFs) and their receptors (PDGFRs) are key regulators of mesenchymal cells in the tumor microenvironment, and has been associated with unfavorable outcome in several other cancers. Herein, we aimed to investigate the ... -

High miR-205 expression in normal epithelium is associated with biochemical failure - An argument for epithelial crosstalk in prostate cancer?
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-11-24)Due to insufficient prognostic tools, failure to predict aggressive prostate cancer (PC) has left patient selection for radical treatment an unsolved challenge. This has resulted in overtreatment with radical therapy. Better prognostic tools are urgently warranted. MicroRNAs (miRs) have emerged as important regulators of cellular pathways, resulting in altered gene expressions. miR-205 has previously ... -
High number of kinome-mutations in non-small cell lung cancers associated with reduced immune response and poor relapse-free survival
(Journal article; Tidsskriftartikkel; Peer reviewed, 2017-04-07)Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer related death, and the past years’ improved insight into underlying molecular events has significantly improved outcome for specific subsets of patients. In particular, several new therapies that target protein kinases have been implemented, and many more are becoming available. We have investigated lung cancer specimens for somatic mutations in a targeted ... -
